Momentum

Manchester’s BFTT brings his serendipitous club moments to the Untitled 909 mix series, describing his contribution as a ‘Best Of Compilation of some big blend moments that have happened during recent sets.’ 

Including unreleased tracks from himself, YCO Cru, Henzo and ‘internet friends’, BFTT’s mix excels in building pace, slowly chugging along via the percussive rhythms of Le Motel, Toma Kami, and Mistareez before an Amerie moment flips the switch. From then on, it’s go big or go home! 

Earlier this year, BFTT released his most reflective work to date on TT, a seven-track album titled ‘Redefines’, that was four years in the making. The album followed on from previous EPs on AD 93, All Centre, Mutualism and YCO - the label he co-runs with aya.

Polyrhythmic finks, broken beats and atmospheric textures from Awo Ojiji aka Timo - who is up next for Tapes #68. 

Strongly inspired by the UK bass genres, Awo Ojiji has a preference for booming bass, dub chords, cuts from juke and jungle and technoid funk. The results are playful tracks with physical impact.

This is the first of several mixes that we will be hosting by artists who are part of the 3024 mentoring programme. blu-e was one of the highlights featured on the recent 3024 compilation series, 'Everything Merged', contributing the catchy banger 'AmaTek'.

'This mix was fairly unimaginative in that it was a round up of some of my favourite club-adjacent tracks of 2022. It also was heavily skewed towards tracks that were released in the last month or 2. At least if you ask Paul Baran himself. To others, it might as well be an equally challenging and diverse collection of electro-acoustic atmospheres, rhythmic experiments, and theoretical manoeuvres, not without a touch of funk. The Other was composed by Baran and recorded together with Werner Dafeldecker, Axel Doerner, Lucio Capece, Sebastian Lexer and many others in Glasgow, and in STEIM studios in Amsterdam, over the last few years. 


About the artist:

Born in 1975, Paul Baran is a composer, electro-acoustic sound designer and improviser based in Glasgow, Scotland. Baran's first album, Panoptic, was released by Fang Bomb in 2009. It was received with great reviews by the global press, and featured collaborations with artists such as Werner Dafeldecker, Ekkehard Ehlers, Keith Rowe and Andrea Belfi.
