Hailing from The Ganaraska Forest in southern Ontario, horse trainer turned singer/songwriter, Kate Boothman, emerges with her sophomore record, My Next Mistake.

“My Next Mistake gathers the reins after a series of stumbles. Forever knowing that you’re bound for glory, but never sure if you’ll get there on time.”
 Recorded at producer, Thomas Knox D’Arcy’s, Taurus Recording, over 2 snowy weeks in January, 2019, Kate and Thom made what they referred to in the studio as a “massage rock” record. “My Next Mistake is a really relaxing record about sex, drugs and rock’n’roll.”
Writing as they went, Kate and Thom’s life-long friendship enabled them to tuck into their shadows. This provided them with instant fodder for the moody narrative that Kate delivers as part prayer, part animal, and entirely her own.

This sits nicely against the sweeping strings, heavy bass, twangy guitars, organ swells and occasionally thunderous drums that make the trippy washed out folk scape reminiscent of something Lee Hazelwood would have dreamed up with the help of Mazzy Star. 
 Where her debut, I Am An Animal, relinquishes the reins and honours those parts of ourselves that can sometimes seem insane, My Next Mistake slowly gathers them up again realizing that slow and steady can get you there just the same. But as Kate can be heard pleading in the chorus of the opening track, "please don't be late".
 
For My Next Mistake, Kate and Thom were joined by long time conspirators, Anna Ruddick and Graham Walsh, as well as Jimmy Bowskill, Adam Hindle, Gavin Brown, Kevin Hearn, Carleigh Aikins, Steven Krecklo, and Drew Jurecka.
 
Together they form a soundscape reminiscent of longing, loneliness and psychedelia.
A fitting ride for a girl who’s tired and stumbling but continues to have her eye on the prize. Freedom of gait.

Roots guy, working guy from the east side of Vancouver Canada.  40+ years with Mud Bay Blues Band as a guitarist singer, crossing paths with Stevie Ray Vaughn, James Cotton, Albert Collins, Koko Taylor, Long John Baldry. Scattered internships with 1980s Vancouver groups Melody Pimps, IBraineater, Frantic Technicians Later wrote and recorded singles with Bachelors in Paradise, releasing a video aired on Much Music "Daddy's Got a Bungalow"

Post- 2000 rejoined fellow-Bachelor in Paradise Bill Oliver for two albums as The Ormidales. Recieved FM airplay in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Europe.

2017 - Formed The Gravel-Aires, a roots and folk Americana duet with Vancouver guitarist/dobro player Michael Mahoney, releasing 2 albums National Avenue in 2020 and Headlights In The Rear View Mirror in 2021
2020/21 - Continued work with The Ormidales releasing a number of singles and videos

Some Friendly Giants band are from the tall mountains and deep valleys of the Kootenays in British Columbia. 

“My roots come from Sixties, Seventies, and Eighties music, but because our band is cross-generational, every decade has been creatively mined for ideas and influences,” says John Wittmayer of Some Friendly Giants.

When John (vocals, guitar, bass, synth, percussion) and Shawn Fisher (vocals, violin, keyboard, percussion, producing) met in the winter of 2020 during the “Great Lockdown,” they decided to collaborate and work on each other’s song ideas. Their brainchild, Some Friendly Giants, was born!

Barry Jones (vocals, keyboard, trumpet, percussion, producing) and James Stephens (vocals, guitar, bass, drums, producing), and shortly after - Amy Heasman and Holly Schweitzer (both vocals and songwriting) joined.
The magical collaboration called Friendly Giants came to be.

Most recently, Roger Swan has contributed his producing skills to a few songs. 

All band members contribute by way of writing and playing their ideas. John says, “The sum of our parts create music that we all identify with, and this sharing is what thrills us to keep creating.” 

Travis Yost (drums) has also made appearances on some of the band’s tracks.

Some Friendly Giants makes music with deep indie roots and an eclectic mixture of cross-generational hippie-pop. They’re releasing new songs every few months, and are looking forward to releasing their first album next year!

Chairmen of the Boards are not a typical surf-rock band, but as their debut album Surfin’ The Apocalypse proves, they are hands down one of the best out there. Keeping things lean and mean, the new trio consisting of Toronto scene vets Rob Hiemstra (guitars), Leonardo Valvassori (bass) and Gary Craig (drums) blast out 14 instrumentals guaranteed to put a little extra wax on your deck and keep you ridin’ the nose through the riptide of daily life.

 Leading off with the vintage twang of first single Board Whacks, COTB display the full range of their stunning chops on the deliciously funky Booty Wiggle, the kick-sand-in-your-face-while-I-sip-my-martini swagger of Dirty Grind, and a cover of surf-rock godfather Dick Dale’s classic track, Taco Wagon. If you only know surf-rock because of Quentin Tarantino soundtracks, time to wax up and get the full experience!

 Granted, the beaches on Lake Ontario aren’t exactly Malibu but Toronto does contain a small but hardcore surfing community. By extension, there’s also a small but hardcore community of surf-rock fanatics, three of whom now comprise Chairmen of the Boards. The seeds were planted when Chairman Rob started bringing original ‘surf compositions’ to Chairman Leo during a residency at Grossman’s Tavern, the storied Toronto venue long known as professional musician jam spot. In no time, the pair were working out new ideas, eventually realizing they were building up enough material to make an album.

 Enter Chairman Gary, and after a period of intense rehearsals, studio time was booked at prestigious Toronto studio Revolution Recording where his drum tracks were recorded by Annelise Noronha (assisted by Gemma Mazza), the rest of the album was laid down at Chairman Leo’s personal studio The Notebox, where additional sugaring to songs was applied by keyboardist Denis Keldie, pedal steel guitarist ‘General’ Kevin Neal, and the Hang Ten Horns—Rebecca Hennessy and Carrie Chesnutt. Tracks were then sent to New York for mixing by Grammy winner William Wittman, and mastering by Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound.

By the time the sun sets with the closing ballad Sand Between Your Toes (homage to the great surf-rock producer Jack Nitzsche), you’ll be ready to pack your board to the top of your Woody and drive back to whatever Hollywood you live in. The Chairmen of the Boards want to help you escape.
