"Like most creatives I have felt so very over consumed. Without artists this world would be colorless and to know you're necessary, but not feel it can be difficult to work through. I personified a banana in this song because it is also something that is needed and yet most people when they're done, they throw it out the window. I've felt like a BANANA! I also think its bananaz that artists are treated in such ways despite our contributions. 

I started coming to Detroit to perform in 2014 and since then I have always made it a point to come back because I love the city. I also love the people, so being apart of this would be sublime! Its renaissance city and creativity is everywhere! "

One of her single was integrated in the american movie "O", and some of her songs were included in the Japanese Air Company's playlist. Steph had the opportunity to collaborate with different artists including Discours, Camp-Lo, Sadat X, Nieve, Janik. Océane is a 19 year old Detroit native who attends Michigan State University. This full time student has a deep love for classic hip-hop and inspires to spit flows while pursuing a career within political science and  becoming an attorney. The mentee of Charyse "Mahogany Jones" Bailey, often includes hip-hop references to pay homage to legendary hip-hop icons. She embodies essence and art within her lyrics with hopes that it will uplift those in the community. Océane is motivated to confront social barriers that minorities face and promotes social change as well as social justice. 

"This song Raindrops was written at 3am while it was pouring rain outside. It is meant to give a different outlook on the unwelcoming weather condition. I thought of rain as a way of washing away everything I didn't like about myself and growing into someone better.  My very close friend DShazz sings the chorus and it is produced by Justyn Kredible from Jus Music Productions."

The song, I RAP, is an empowerment song speaking to what women MC's offer Hip Hop music and culture. It is a statement about the unacknowledged  strength, lyrical skill and understanding that women possess when it comes to rapping. The artists rhyme about being crowned in victory, possessing unrelenting energy and connecting the mind to the heart. 

Rhyme like a Girl is collective of women MC"s who have trained in the Freestyle Union tradition of lyricism. Created by Toni Blackman, Rhyme like a Girl was started to create a safe space for girls and women MC's to build their skills, connect with other women in Hip Hop and to honor their own voices. Most of the artists are also teachers/educators and many have participated in cultural diplomacy programs as Hip Hop Envoys and cultural ambassadors. Rhyme like a Girl MC's have a reputation for having exceptional freestyle skill.

"Dreamers Death was written after I found myself having a conversation about dreams. It made me wonder how does one dream so passionately about something and just quit. I came up with the answer that some people just lose hope and faith in their goals, especially musicians. There are millions of people who want the same dream and it takes unwavering faith to believe even when the world is telling you not too. That is when I started singing " My Dreams Will Never Die, Hopeless Folks are just dreamers that have died". I do not want to suffer a dreamers death nor do i want others too. I wanted this song to be an inspiration for those who needed a pick me up when they were down."

Recent events including police brutality across the country and the black balling of Colin Kaepernick all highlight the illness that still consumes our nation. The intention of this piece is to encourage and inspire our people to keep pushing against hate while realizing the power we have when we engage in love and continuous solidarity. Ever wonder where all the women in Hip Hop have gone?  We did too so we decided to be proactive and honor the contributions of Women in Hip-Hop every week in an event we created in 2009 called “The Foundation: Celebrating Women in Hip Hop”. The social impact of Hip Hop is a cultural revolution which crosses borders, inspires ideas and influences behaviors.

Encouraging freedom of expression, healthy competition, independent thought, & positive self-identity, this weekly event as a movement focuses on redefining the vital role of Women in Hip Hop. Our mission is to educate and empower the community through sharing love of the arts, inspire change and growth, build leadership, and influence the perceptions and roles of women in hip-hop for current and future generations. Hip Hop’s emergence in global cities through multiple, devastating wars (psychological, physical, and cultural) answers and questions global economic restructuring of our communities.

We bring together artists, activists and academics to stage new conversations about women of color and women of color feminisms across Hip Hop’s cultural forms. Using Media to address the role, images, and treatment of women in Hip-Hop we critique and disrupt status quo narratives and present investigations about value systems and structures of violence and human value, the politics of aesthetics, and women of color feminism.

Participants walk away with a greater understanding of the value of women in Hip Hop as a culture across disciplines.: Art (Graffiti/StreetArt etc.), Dance (B-Girling), Technology (DJing/Music Production/Video), Words (Emceeing/FreeStyling/Writing/Rhyming/Poetry), and Culture (the Knowledge Element of reading, observing video and listening to audio media, discussion)
