GARDENS OF CAPRI was founded at the Lake of Constance in 2018 by the California-native Amy Elizabeth Jarrett and Julian Scharpf. Their songs explore the tension between the boredom of extravagance and the thrill of being different. 

Different and contrary are also the voices of the two, but still they make up a symbiosis that is one of a kind. In their music the international couple refers to the past as well as the present: their interpretation of the west coast sound of the late 70’s as well as excellent modern pop songwriting combine influences by Fleetwood Mac, The XX and Parcels in a way that hasn’t been heard as of yet. 

Their first release Let Go is a catchy and sophisticated pop song about the notion of always wanting to have it all and maybe even a tiny bit more. “In the end you could say it’s a song about capitalism and its effects on human nature. But in a fun way,“ the couple says.

Their lyrics range somewhere between melancholy and irony. The singer and songwriter Julian Scharpf recognizes the weight of this world but handles it with ease. The productions of co-founder and producer Leander Bauer capture the initial melancholy, contribute to the irony, and put a lo-fi twist on the pop songs that makes GARDENS OF CAPRI unique. 

GARDENS OF CAPRI balances well the attempt to write outstanding pop songs but still stay different. They succeed in doing so. And it’s a lot of fun to see it happen.
