KidZ BOP 1984 – “RELAX” 
(Frankie Goes to Hollywood)
In one of the strangest entries in the KidZ BOP library, “RELAX” stands as the holy grail of lost children’s pop. Supposedly recorded in late 1984 — years before KidZ BOP formally existed — this “prototype” version was an earnest attempt to make cutting-edge New Wave fun and family-friendly. Producers reportedly stripped out “the weird adult stuff,” then added a Motown children’s choir...
But history was not ready. Even without the risqué subtext, parents of the Reagan era were deeply confused by 12-year-olds chanting “Relax, don’t do it!” over throbbing synths and questionable lyrics. The track was shelved indefinitely. Only in recent years has a master cassette resurfaced, reigniting debate about whether this was an innocent sing-along gone wrong — or the most hilariously misguided pop cover in children’s music history.
