Back by popular demand is DJ Crisps with his third solo contribution to the Time Is Now catalogue: the fierce 4-tracker which explores the many flavours of garage and justifies the Rotterdam producer’s ever-growing ubiquity in today’s UKG circuit.
 
Kicking off proceedings is ‘Keep It Up’ - a high-octane speed garage banger, prepped with intervals of slamming reverse sweeps which carry their own rhythm. After ‘Alright’’s unique blend of old skool grime samples and diva-esque vocals which play in dialogue beneath a sharp two-step beat, ‘Today’ strips things back a little with a modest bassline melody and ragga vocals. Finally, with pitched-up, syrup smooth vocal licks ‘Bounce’ captures UKG at its most soulful.

Noted for his vast and psychedelic bass heavy productions, Brighton based producer Etch pulls out four killers for the ‘Sloppy Rhythm Trax’ EP on Hypercolour.

With a pedigree that has bestowed labels like Illian Tape, Sneaker Social Club, LMD SunkWorks and TempOzone with exceptional singles and albums, the man like Etch fires on all cylinders for his Hypercolour debut.

Impenetrable and heady vibes are served up on ‘Lazyville’, whilst ‘Gaia’s Mainframe’ give us some of that aforementioned psychedelic bass in spades!

‘Pluto’s Groove’ tears into jungle and d‘n’b territories, rinsing out the acid breaks vibes, whilst ‘Belladonna & The Poppies’ throws down more sub bass frequencies in a dusty and decidedly chugging EP finale.

A rhythm created during a common dream, a journey repeated by the rolling of the snare drums, voices bewitched by a humid path, its synthesizers are the only reason of this crystalline mist. The hallmarks that have shaped his sound to date are all here; nimble breaks and beefy sub bass plumes underpin glitchy melodies for an effect that’s as light as it is propulsive.

PM+ is very happy to welcome back techno misfit Emily Jeanne for a second round of precision club incisions which revel in the kind of squirming sound design that make our synapses stand on end. 

‘Liquid Crystal’ maintains the seductive poise and restrained intensity of Jeanne’s prior outing on our humble label, keeping a firm grip on the top-line energy and letting the insistent purr of the bass guide you towards total soundsystem hypnosis. The trick is in the mid-range, where the detail writhes and squirms its way through this meditative chamber of rhythm science crafted by one of modern techno’s most startling voices. 

The focus on transcendental fundamentals maintains on ‘Lagune’, which threads acoustic and synthetic percussion together into one densely knitted fabric designed to cloak the mind. Resonant overtones bleed out into looming atmospherics, and Jeanne holds down an unrelenting focus on the roll and rumble of the beat, making this a vital soundsystem asset for anyone unsatisfied with the concept of the one-dimensional ‘DJ tool’.

During their live sets, Fractal Void create vertical reflections by processing sounds through software and interaction with real instruments in every unique musical performance like the Chinese contemporary calligraphic practice Dishu.
