Shimza, real name Ashley Raphala, is one of South Africa's brightest young talents. "Ascendent", his 4 tracks debut E.P. on Cadenza reveals solid production skills and an innate instinct for peak-time bangers. The opening track, "Congo Congo" is a dark ride over abysmal tom-tom drums, lively percussions and a gloomy bass lead, ignited dramatically by an ensemble of wide synthetic stabs and chords. In its "Dub- Mix", the drums and the percussion become lighter without diminishing its dynamic tension. The overall weight of the leads and the stabs is reduced, leaving more space to its intense piano and string chords and swinging sub bass. "Shimza - Secret Melodies" starts with an obscure bass line, but the intense twist of fractioned rolls and arpeggios bring an ascending piano progression that quickly blooms into an uplifting symphony. "Selector" is a deeper cut that keeps the gaze on the dancefloor: the incessant hand clapping and a cloud of low frequencies bumps unexpectedly drag its hypnotic harmonies into a breath-taking drop.

OxygenBuntu is a name you need to take note of , this up and coming producer is insanely  talented and we are blessed to have Soyo Soyo as the first in a trilogy of releases coming out on Afrocentric Records

The original mix is an Afro Tech monster of a groove with dark swirling strings high hitting synth’s and bone shaking percussion,all blended perfectly with the vocals man of the moment Idd Aziz’s .This will be our second release with the Kenyan maestro, on vocals and his performance as usual is outstanding. This is a journey of a track coming in 9:22 with every second made to count.
On remix duty we have drafted in another up and coming talent Gumz, with releases on Aluku Records and MoBlack, as well as he latest release featuring regularly on Black Coffee’s Lockdown sets. His remix is percussion heavy, with delicate , piano and a more downtempo dreamy feel. And ohhhhhhhh the breakdown is definitely gonna bring the dance floor into a crescendo when it drops. 

DJ Jim Mastershine (Drumatic Soul) delivers a much harder Afro tech remix with his signature “chugging” sound, tickling keys, serious sounding synth and heavy percussion, and using subtle vocal effects to really highlight Idd Aziz pleading vocals

Next up with have a new name to the game Dubai based Jacey he brings a stripped down remix built around a haunting synth line, and some heavyweight drums , topped off with some nifty key work. Watch out for this producer as you will be hearing a lot more from him.

If the 4 tracks in package  weren’t enough OxygenBuntu finishes the package off with a Club mix , full of eerie strings , a persistent droning synth and sone slamming filtered effects to top off a BOSS package

Afrocentric Records is a record label with the aim of showcasing some of the high quality house music coming out of the African Continent, something the label think is too easily lost in the stacks of new music being released. They provide a platform for these talented producers and artist’s to expose them to a wider audience by releasing their music across the world.

One such artist is responsible for their next ep 'Back to Earth' by DJ Jim Mastershine a young , talented Dj / Producer born in Limpopo, inspired by the legendary Black Coffee, Jim has been music since 2011 to much celebration.

On his 'Back to Earth' EP we find Mastershine delve deep into his atmospheric layered house productions to fantastic effect. With all 6 tracks varying in tone & texture the dramatic intent of his production is audible across all 6 tracks, dance floor driven rhythms, marinated in lush futuristic soundscapes whilst remaining undeniably authentic to the sounds of Africa.
