Septembre 2010, le quintet Kaly Live Dub présentait Lightin’ The Shadow, un cinquième (et double) album, entre ombre et lumière. Le groupe choisissait d’y affirmer ses influences, doubles elles aussi : une électro mêlée de sonorités hip-hop incisives, de dubstep rugissant, accordée à des vibrations dub roots, dans la lignée de leurs précédentes productions.

￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼￼(Auriculaire), le groupe enfonce définitivement le clou avec ce sixième opus - Allaxis - fruit de l’expérience live et des influences digérées des musiciens. Déterminé à s’affranchir d’un carcan reggae dub bien trop réducteur, le groupe propose une vision débridée de sa musique. Une ambivalence synthétisée en une essence bien plus rugueuse : cette fois l’ombre a clairement pris le dessus sur la lumière.
Allaxis, titre éponyme qui ouvre l’album, pose clairement les bases : ambiance oppressante sur fond de basse rugissante. Une tension palpable que l’on retrouvera comme un fil rouge tout le long de l’album. Preuve en est, le morceau Chord Note, furie incandescente prête à imploser à tout moment, véritable hydre à 4 têtes nourrie de basses lourdes, de textures menaçantes et d’assauts synthétiques apocalyptiques.
Find us, Pack Ice, No More Dread laissent à leur tour échapper ça et là skanks et autres delays d’une chappe de plomb omniprésente, apportant au projet une teneur toute particulière, entre dub digital et dubstep.
Présent sur 3 des 9 titres, Learoy Green apporte un souffle différent à l’album. Tantôt lancinantes et scandées (Can I make a wish) tantôt chantées, ses interventions contrastent clairement avec le reste de l’album (Run and go hide). Une source de quiétude, une chaleur contrastant avec le côté sombre et abrupt des autres titres comme un clin d’oeil à leurs productions précédentes.

La Inédita is a Peruvian band who blends chicha with raggamuffin and reggae. Check out their full length release on soundcloud.com/lainedita  These guys are definitely a tight band with some really good songs. I personally think breakbeat and chicha go great together, nothing like hearing those guitars over some hard funky drums. I wish more people would make breakbeat chicha remixes so I could spin a whole set. On that note, here's one more.
