This is a rerecording of the set I played for HEDEX at Substation in Seattle. It was my first time closing out for someone as legendary as HEDEX! So I threw down some of my favourite tunes I thought would keep the crowd there!

Closing Set for HEDEX @Substation (11-30-2023)

With a focus on Drum & Bass, Halftime, Dubstep, and Leftfield Bass, Owleks has made a name for himself in the Seattle electronic music scene. 

As a co-founder of We Tried Live and member of the long-running local DnB staple ONSET, the 2016 Seattle DnB Battle champ, and a plethora of performances at club nights and venues across the PNW, his craft continues to flourish into a well-oiled machine of fast-paced drum patterns and unique sonic frequencies.

He has opened for such legends as Camo & Krooked, Netsky, Bou, Spor, Phace, Rusko, Nero, Friction, Danny Byrd, Calyx & TeeBee, Joker, Coki, N-Type, Ed Rush & Optical, The Upbeats, Funtcase, Posij, Degs, Rohaan, Machinedrum, Current Value, Total Science, AK1200, Quadrant & Iris, KJ Sawka, Doctor Jeep, Huxley Anne, Esseks, Random Movement, Fixate, Downlink, Dieselboy, SPL, and many more internationally-recognized artists.

Grew up in Arizona, listening to DNB most of my life. Somewhere in 2022, I got some turntables for my modest/dusty vinyl collection, suffered immensely for months, and eventually went digital! 

I got my first gig in early 2023, playing Trinity's "redroom" for Dieselboy, and managed to keep it packed! I've never had a way to share my love for DNB with people until now (partly because I started raving in 2021). Seeing them react to my favorite tracks deeply inspired and motivated me to keep at it.

I'm fairly new in this journey, but I'm truly blessed to finally be able to contribute to this dnb family of ours, even in a small way.

Kylie Louise Ochsner, known by her stage name DAKU, is a Seattle/Tacoma based DJ, singer, aspiring multi-genre producer, event photographer, and digital designer based in the Seattle/Tacoma area. With roots in Bavaria, Germany, her unique heritage is embodied in her artistic persona, as ‘Ochsner’ translates to ‘Ox farm’—a nod to her grounded yet dynamic approach to music and creativity.

DAKU’s musical journey began in an unorthodox fashion. Growing up as an only child and sustaining a snowboarding injury at a young age, she found solace and inspiration in music, immersing herself in diverse genres with a particular affinity for drum & bass and techno. Her ability to connect with different sounds is a testament to her high-functioning autism and ADHD, which have honed her focus on her passions for music and art. In recent years, she has developed a talent for mixing, quickly gaining recognition for her energetic performances and her knack for creating goosebump-inducing moments on the dance floor.

DAKU brings a fresh perspective to the DNB (Seattle/NW Bass) scene. With a commitment to spreading positivity through her music, DAKU has already had the opportunity to perform on various decks at local EDM events, captivating audiences with her infectious positivity and sweetheart energy.

DAKU's journey into the world of photography started serendipitously. Initially gaining recognition for her striking photography, she captured the essence of fellow DJs during their sets using only her iPhone now using a Canon90d. A mentor along another established DJ helping her find how much of her soul she pours into this, instilled in her the belief that her artistry was worth pursuing. His faith in her vision propelled DAKU to explore both her photography and music more deeply.

In addition, DAKU maintains a keen eye behind the camera, blending her two passions into a cohesive artistic vision. Photographing and meeting artists such as Hedex, Dirtyphonics, Mob Tactics, Teddy Killerz & more, She’s photographed at The Showbox SoDo, Substation, ETT, and there meeting her photography mentor, who is a well known talent in media.

These affirmations fueled her passion, leading her to hone her skills in mixing, production, and music theory. DAKU discovered her ability to play by ear, allowing her to translate her emotional experiences into intricate sonic landscapes.

DAKU pours her soul into creating immersive musical experiences that resonate with her audience. Though she is still in the early stages of her music career, her dedication to learning and growth is evident in her sound. She continues to evolve as an artist, learning from the best and incorporating her unique perspective into her work.
