One More Piece

This is one of those songs that I've had sitting around my hard-drive for about two years, and I finally decided to upload even though it's not actually mixed or finished.

Ocean

Wanted to try something new.  Heard here is a recording of William Jennings Bryan's Immortality speech that he give just before running for president of the US in 1908. He ended up losing but it's still an interesting speech and a surprisingly clear recording given that it happened 110 years ago.

In 1925 Bryan was famously involved with the scopes monkey trial where he spoke against the teaching of evolution in schools and thankfully lost. The trial is also famous for being the first nationally broadcasted in the US; It was heavily followed.  The portion of the speech used here is "If matter, mute and inanimate, though changed by the forces of nature into a multitude of forms, can never die, will the imperial spirit of man suffer annihilation when it had paid a brief visit like a royal guest to this tenement of clay? No, I am as sure that there is another life as I am that I live today." He references forces of nature and the law of conservation of mass and relates it to the spirit of man. It's interesting to me that a man who so staunchly disagreed with such a fundamental scientific thought as evolution still alluded to facts in other areas of scientific study.
