The music of Grand Cousin calls to mind a place where the steady rush-hour grooves of New York City meet the sun-washed echoes of the California coast. The NYC-based trio met in their first days at Wesleyan University and immediately began crafting their unique brand of catchy alternative pop/rock. It’s music you can dance to—but don’t let your ears wander too far from the words.

Songwriter Henry Hall leads the group on guitar and vocals. A joker with a soft spot and a dark streak, Hall howls wistful, cathartic lyrics over kicking guitar riffs and bright, vibrating melodies.  Robert Caplan and Evan Low are underneath it all, laying the foundation for Hall’s outpourings. Caplan strides on bass with infectious, funk-inspired rhythms, while Low delivers uncompromisingly tight, punchy beats to ground the efforts of his bandmates.  

With their debut EP set for release this July and a supporting tour on the horizon, things are heating up for Grand Cousin.  Building on the successes of their 2013 singles, “Camera” and “Let Me Know,” and 2014’s “Oxygen,” this year is set to be the breakthrough moment for the band.
