Friday morning in mid-July and Gerry Forbes and Friends were playing "Calgary's Perfect Music Mix" on FM 96 CHFM.  Gerry was joined by Captain Kirk (Al Molnar) with the traffic reports while Paul Baumberg and Samantha Grant updated the news.  Trish Exton from the Calgary Zoo also dropped by for a visit.

CHFM was Gerry's first stop in Calgary before heading to QR-77.

A Sunday afternoon in mid-April 1991, and it was a "Sound of Motown Weekend," with Rob Alexander on "Classic Gold" 66 CFR Calgary.  Patricia Hunter had the news and Angela Knight was "On the Road" with a community events update.

The Calgary Flames were in the NHL playoffs and their home games anthem singer, Susan Smith, had a song to cheer them on.

Jerry (Steen) and Joanne (Johnson), from the Steen Team morning show, were ready to go out "mugging" listeners with 66 CFR coffee mugs.

On a fall day when Bob Merchant was away, and missed his regular 9 to 12 Noon shift, morning show host Russ Tyson stayed later and Gene Taylor (Dieter Stachow) started earlier to cover for Bob.  Russ was usually on the air from 6 to 9 a.m. while Gene was on from Noon to 3 p.m.

As part of their shift change and hand off, Russ and Gene had a country record "spin off" contest on Calgary's 1140 CKXL sometime in the Fall of 1975.

About a year later, Tyson would move to competitor 1060 CFCN and Gene (Dieter) would host the CKXL morning show until succeeding Glen Schey at C-JAY 92, as its morning show host.

Bob Merchant would go on to join Vancouver's 14 C-FUN.

Paul Harvey had "The Rest of the Story," the late Ted Potter provided traffic updates with the KOMO "Air Patrol."  Lan Archer updated KOMO news while Doug Limerick had ABC Radio network news.  George Siegel provided the weather forecasts from the KOMO "Weather Center."

We have some of the commemorative broadcast from the day 960 CFAC Calgary significantly increased its power using a new Continental transmitter on the morning of Monday November 23, 1970.

Lorne Ball was in the CFAC Radio studios in Calgary while program manager, Jim Kunkel, was joined by general manager, John Ansell, and a number of dignitaries for the station's increase in power output from 10,000 to 50,000 watts.

Ansell follows Ball's introduction.

Retired technical director Earle Connor, introduced by Mr. Ansell and in conversation with Mr. Kunkel, had the honour of powering up the new 50,000 watt three tower facility, located about 18 km (11 miles) southeast of the then Calgary city limits.

At two minutes past 11 am, Fred Skelton had the first 50,000 watt newscast on Radio 96.

In 1986, the Calgary Flames made it to their first Stanley Cup Finals and the Moffat radio stations in the city, Music 96 (95.9 CHFM) and XL Radio (1140 CKXL), produced and aired this playoff song by Marty Cochrane which was sung to the music of the Pointer Sisters' "Jump (For My Love)."

Montreal won the series four games to one.

Marty retired from 2&7/Global Calgary, as a floor director, in 2014 and continues to make music as well as paint in Cochrane, Alberta.  Where he has lived since 2008.

In addition to his many years at 680 CFTR in Toronto, Jim also worked in Calgary at 810 CHQR and 105.1 CKRY around 1983/84.

After leaving 960 CFAC Calgary, Bob was CKXL's program director before joining Bob Comfort and Paul Tividar (Mann) at Edmonton's Tinsel & Sham Productions.  He went on to a career in comedy, as one half of Double Exposure.

The show was simulcast on Parksville-Qualicum Beach's 1370 CHPQ.

Duane was appointed CHUB's sports director in June 1969.

Before joining C. Foster Kane (John Langan) in 1991/2 to become the X-Men on 98.9 KKZX Spokane, here's Jim Arnold with Craig Johnson as the Breakfast Boys on 93 ZOO FM.  Langan was the Zoo's program director at the time.

KZZU was at 92.9 FM and 970 AM hence "the two Zoos" mentioned in the aircheck.

KZZU is now 92.9 ZZU FM.

Robin Erickson and John Maynard were also heard on Seattle's KQBZ (now KKWF) in its Buzz FM days, KISW and KZOK over the years.

They ended their run, of over 20 years, on Seattle radio in December 2005.
