Whether causing chaos on a Boiler Room or soundtracking an old warship in Amsterdam, @hollylester has had an attention-grabbing ascent into dance music.

Originally hailing from rural Northern Ireland, she’s been busy carving her niche in the world of house and techno since emerging from England’s north-west dance scene midway through the last decade.  

It was as a DJ where she first rose to prominence, regularly playing for institutions Shine and Chibuku Shake Shake before a residency at the Warehouse Project beckoned.  To date, she's shared stages with the likes of Motor City Drum Ensemble, Optimo, Joy Orbison and Paul Woolford. 

The dancefloors she's commanded have included familiar names such as Printworks, XOYO, Wilde Renate and IPSE. Her knack for pursuing more exciting projects has seen her play in an array of unique locations across Europe.  These include an abandoned bowling alley in Baku, a forest off Ireland’s east coast and an ancient wine factory in Tbilisi, all sashaying to Lester's inimitable sounds.

This natural talent for sharing the music she loves naturally lent itself well to radio. As well as appearances on BBC radio, she was one of the founding residents of Manchester station Limbo.  Free from the confinements of the dancefloor, Holly explores ambient, jungle, downtempo Balearic cuts and more, alongside new and unreleased music from around the world.

A natural progression in her evolution as music curator was of course to begin her own record label. Launched in 2020, Duality Trax is inspired by the idea that two contrasting energies or emotions can exist simultaneously in the same space, bringing about a natural symbiosis and balance. This happy collision of opposing forces is the mission statement for the imprint, with a strong desire to represent balance and inclusivity across each release.

Carl's 070620 Mix

This album drifts through shadowy textures and deep, minimal grooves - a sonic journey where NuSkool breaks, deep house, and glitch collide. Each track feels like a fragment of a dream: hazy, immersive, and unpredictable, built on intricate drum edits, sub-driven basslines, and warped atmospheres. The mood is dark but strangely hypnotic, laced with quirky glitches and subtle details that reveal themselves on repeat listens. Designed as both a head-nodder and a trip into deeper states, the album captures that floating, weightless zone between clarity and haze - music for late nights, smoke-filled rooms, and moments when time feels suspended.

The Funk of Forty Thousand Years

We reached out to Amsterdam's Súya as we are big fans of his mixes, and asked if he would like to do one for Somewhere Down There. Thankfully, he agreed, and graced us with this wonderful mix.

When providing the mix, Súya said "When I think of Australia, beautiful nature and long drives come to mind. Reminding me of driving to parties when me and my friends were about 16 years old. We didn't have a driver's license, but we would drive for two hours to the other side of the Netherlands to go to a beach club in Bloemendaal. 

The first hour of the mix is inspired by driving to and being at a party with your friends. The second hour portrays a kind of 'late night driving' vibe while driving home, still being in the mood."

Yellow Island Records head honcho Albin was at the helm for the first hour of their February show. He brought a selection of deep house, minimal and EBM sound before his guest Malik Alston brings a selection of percussive jazz, broken beat and groove-heavy house in the second hour with a tribute inside to the late Chick Corea.
