Peter Pixzel is a London-based DJ/Producer, co-founder, and resident of WetYourSelf!, the longstanding and
renowned weekend party at fabriclondon. He’s back on the label with another freshly squeezed package of
deepened underground jams as he presents his ‘Elements’ EP.
‘Kaleidoscope’ opens the release with positive charm, bringing a wave of swinging rhythmic components and
delightfully dubby melodic tones. Punchy drums and delicate hat grooves pave the way for a series of
enchanting synth melodies and a groovy bassline as dream-like textures bleed their way throughout the track
in this uplifting vibe-builder.
‘Bass Stalker’ comes next, taking the shape of a stripped-back roller. Building around another construction of
endearing drums and percussive layers, its arpeggiating synth melody and catchy bassline steer the track
towards an enriching additional analogue lead that will keep you on your toes.
‘Pivital’ brings the release to a close with the third of three welcoming subterranean cuts. Jacking drum grooves
pave the way for swirling analogue frequencies and modulating synth lines whilst continuously adding
progressively chirpy harmonic supplements in this undeniably invigorating after-hours number.

Please, tell us a bit about Moscow Records...

Archie Hamiltion: We started Moscow Records in 2009. I think at that time we did it because we wanted to have a 

platform on which to present what we were doing musically. It is very difficult to make a mark in this industry as an 

individual. I think it’s important to have something that people can associate your music with. I did internships at CR2 

and then Defected when I moved to London after university, so I saw the workings of relatively big labels, but I had no 

real hands­on experience. The hardest part initially was to get distributors and shops to work with us, as we were 

completely unknown as artists. I think the hardest part now for me is finding the time to do the work. Along with my 

gigs, making music and trying to have some semblance of a normal social life, it’s not easy!

What are the label’s top releases so far?

I think for me, the best releases have been Kirik’s Stay Body EP, the Better Hide EP by Dan Farserelli and I, 

Moscillation EP by OdD, Lorenzo Chiabotti’s Adnur EP and I am very happy with my new one, Time EP.

Is there a concept behind the label? What are the musical boundaries if any ?

We set out to simply make and release timeless house and techno. Although I think we have a sound, I wouldn’t say 

we have any particular boundaries. I like to always have a strong dancefloor track on every release, as well as more 

ethereal or ‘intelligent’ tracks.

Label artists (who is on the label?)

The regular artists are Lorenzo Chiabotti, Dan Farserelli, Antony Difrancesco, OdD, Ferro

What makes the label different?

Everyone we work with... I like to get to know them first because I like to know what they are about as a person and 

where they are headed artistically. I take quality very seriously, so I am a real stickler for things like mixdowns, which 

can be very annoying for artists, but it’s always worth it in the long­run.

Influences, is there any other labels you are influenced by ?

When we started we were massively influenced by labels like Perlon, Oslo, Cadenza, Barraca, Circus Company, 

Cecille and Vakant...

Vinyl versus digital... what formats are you releasing on and what are your views on vinyl versus digital?

We release on both formats. Personally I think it’s important to have a physical representation of your work, although 

I do not believe in releasing in releasing exclusively on vinyl. There are plenty of people in the world who cannot 

afford, or are unable to purchase records and they have just as much right as anyone to own music. I don’t want to 

open up too much of a can of worms here, but I think people can take the vinyl thing way too seriously...

How long time do you leave between releases?

We don’t have a rigid structure; I don’t like to feel pressured into releasing regularly. When the music is there, and the 

time is right then we will release a record. However, the current lead time (up to 18 weeks!) from delivery to release 

doesn’t make things easy!

What are the visual guidelines in the label? do you work with a specific visual artist or use many different 

ones?

When we started, we wanted to think of a way to draw people’s attention to the records in store who have never 

heard of this label or the artists. It’s a tired old adage, but sex sells! We have a very talented illustrator called Mel 

Burns who draws all of the beautiful ladies that adorn our labels now.

They are known as Livio & Roby and they have been putting their own supernatural twist on house and techno for the past 10 years. Their connection with the global electronic music movement has been channeled via highly influential outlets such as Desolat, VIVa, Saved and Fumakilla. While their physical presence has been felt in a myriad of venues from Buenos Aires to Detroit, and across much of Europe. From dynamic DJ sets and innovative live performances to album projects and a constant flow of cutting edge, dancefloor-based productions the duo remain one of their nation's leading lights in the field.

Livio & Roby were born from the weeping souls of their ancestors, men and women who lived through centuries of struggle, from the poverty of the Middle Ages to the Communist rule that only recently lost its grip on the nation. It was only through the determination of a small percentage of brave individuals that it was still possible to hear music from overseas, in the most clandestine of situations – the true meaning of underground. Music found its way, against all odds.

Romania's spirit is evident in all aspects of their music; The tribal rhythms penetrate your psyche, the organic instrumentation lifts your spirit; flutes and vocals combine with delicate chimes, while groovy basslines and solemn melodies create a magical concoction. Next to fall under their spell was Loco Dice, who signed them to his Artist Alife agency and promptly released the seminal 'Mistique' – a track created in collaboration with the third member of this spellbinding outfit, George G, with whom they form Premiesku. Just like their unique partnership, Premiesku operates within its own confines – their live show is built around hardware that has been customised and reconfigured for their own use, without any computers involved. This gives them total freedom in their performances and allows them to express their own distinctive style.

Jnr Windross WYS Promo Mix

The music played by Dragos Gabriel Dumitru, the Romanian-born DJ known as Cally, has close ties to one place. Originally from Craiova, he’s part of a new wave of minimal house DJs who emerged from Romania’s electronic scene following the success of the [a:rpia:r] trio in the late 2000s. 

Dumitru spent years developing his own take on the so-called Romanian sound before moving to London – another place that’s been pivotal in shining a light on the country’s rising stars. He’s now a resident at Stump, the underground party with a philosophy built on Romania’s stripped-back sound.

His party has seen him playing alongside some of Romania’s key players, but he’s also kept busy in the studio, with his work ending up on labels like Fear Of Flying and Cocoon’s fabled mix series. 

With Stump holding a firm place in East London’s party scene, more people than ever are hearing Dumitru play for the first time – outside of London he’ll also make his first appearance at Romania’s mecca for electronic music at Sunwaves this summer. 

More immediately he’s also playing in the club at this weekend’s WetYourSelf!, so he sent us over this mix of understated house to give us an idea of what to expect when he joins us in Room One.

WetYourSelf! hosts a showcase from one of the capital’s most exciting party collectives this weekend as Oscuro take over Room One. Led by resident DJs Jonny Reece and Jack Ling, Oscuro have close ties to Europe’s growing minimal scene, bringing names like Praslea and SIT to small venues across East London.

This Sunday, the duo are joined by a DJ on the ascent and one of Frankfurt’s most promising talents: Markus Sommer. Ahead of their first WYS! showcase, Jayar (aka Jonny Reece) recorded a mix of deep house burners to introduce the collective.

This Sunday is a special one for WetYourSelf! as they prepare to celebrate their 11th anniversary. They are best known for being a centre of support for London’s best local talent but they also regularly nod to artists doing good things further afield. They’ll be bringing more of the same this Sunday, as Romanian experimentalist trio Amorf prepare to make their UK debut with a live set in Room One joining the full WYS! resident cast of Jacob Husley, Peter Pixzel, Carlos Ryan and Lamine.

Formed of Romanian minimalists Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia alongside pianist Mischa Blanos, Amorf are known for their largely improvised live performances, while their classical-influenced 'Blending Light' LP from last year was among one of the year’s best minimal releases. 

In celebration of this weekend’s birthday, the group have shared the unreleased track 'Downing Street', a typically jazzy ethereal house cut.

Cosmjn is a young producer and DJ tied to Romania’s fervent electronic music scene. His music has been released on labels like Subtil and Eastenderz, sitting somewhere between the type of minimal techno and tech house that the [a:rpia:r] trio famously championed. 

Cosmjn recently signed to the Sunrise roster alongside the likes of Raresh, Vlad Caia and Praslea – as good a gig as any Romanian artist on the rise can hope for.
