Economic Impact is a weekly discussion and review of economic issues and topics at the national, state and local levels. There is a particular emphasis on items affecting the Louisville metro area and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The perspectives offered will be those from "heterodox economics." Heterodox economics, as opposed to orthodox or mainstream economics or "neoclassical" economics, is more eclectic in its approach to economics and allows pluralism of views and concepts. It also harkens back to when economics and political science were pretty much joined together in one discipline called political economy. Today's economists do not like the term "political economy", but Tom thinks they miss a lot by assuming that markets exist in a vacuum and that all consumers/people are either nearly perfectly rational or completely rational.

Professor Lambert is in the Economics department at UofL and has recently been assigned to their equine industry programs as an applied economist. Prior to UofL, he taught full time for Northern Kentucky University in their Master of Public Administration program for several years. Before that he was with the economics department at IU Southeast for many years. Professor Lambert has a MS in economics from UK and a PhD in Urban and Public Affairs from UofL with a concentration in urban economics and economic development.

WORKING GROUP MEETINGS: Join us on third Saturdays from 10 AM to 12:30 PM to carry the local Black food justice conversation and work.
FEED THE WEST: Families have access to weekly fresh and free grocery pick up while we eliminate local grocery surplus.
YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL: Shifting the power dynamic and incentiving youth as experts to curate our future youth outreach.
TRIBE TIME: Monthly caregiver and parent support group. Sharing resources and intimate conversations on healthy parenting.
FARMERS MARKET: Circulating the dollar within the Black community. Locally sourced food and handcrafted items.
COMMUNITY FEEDBACK MEETINGS: Sharing responsibilities while developing community projects on land we own.
FRESH RX: Food as Medicine! Free weekly produce pick up for expecting mothers.
Our vision includes leading community-based research to make policies more equitable and actionable, and making complex decisions more understandable. We aim to disrupt capitalism by creating shared resources, activating people to grow their own food, and establishing barter and trade systems. Education remains at the core of our efforts, helping define the 'perfect neighborhood' and what 'home' truly means. We see Black organizations uniting to commit to this vision, working collaboratively towards a future where everyone thrives.

An interview with Dr. Ken Chilton of Tennessee State University on his research into how large real estate firms and financial corporations, sometimes known as private equity firms, are buying up residential housing in different metro area markets throughout the US.  Many of these homes are being resold to upscale buyers or rented out to those of a middle income class.  Louisville falls into a category where most are rented due to certain characteristics that make Louisville different from cities such as Nashville or Atlanta.  In many cities, large corporations can own a substantial portion of the local housing stock.

His experiences and knowledge as an attorney, business leader, and principal of Snyder Advisory, LLC show how life is not a "linear path" but instead, as we navigate the "bumpers" in life similar those that exist in a pinball machine, we make changes in our lives as we adapt to opportunities or challenges that life presents to us.  This is a fascinating book, and we only get to discuss segments of it as in the last show we did on it when it was still a work in progress.  I think listeners will thoroughly enjoy listening to Marty and his insights.
