She’s not only produced some of the most exciting and unique music, but you should also count her as one of the best guitar players in the game, comparable to Prince.  And to talk to?  She’s top of that game as well, which is what makes this interview so much fun.

Have you  heard the new Iggy Pop album, Post Pop Depression? Not only is it one of the best records of the year, it’s also one of his greatest albums ever, no easy feat for a guy that helped start punk rock, wrote some of the greatest songs of the 70s, and eventually found himself in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It also doesn’t hurt that the new record was produced and co-written by Josh Homme, the Queens of the Stone Age frontman with his own lifetime worth of accolades. And me? I’ve got both of them sitting down together.

My Morning Jacket may be between albums right now, but that hasn’t slowed any of the members down. Most of the guys ended up backing Ray Lamontagne as his backing band last year, and there were a couple of solo records, too. One of those came from guitarist Carl Broemel, who hadn’t taken a solo outing since 2010’s All Birds Say. Whatever the reasons for taking the time, it’s made for a great collection called 4th of July.
