"What Came First" is a new label dedicated to House and Techno, which has been set up by the people behind the infamous EGG London club venue.

This new release is from London based Warboy who has been resident at EGG since 2011 and currently heads up the boundary pushing, resident night Sabajaq. 

Real name Jim Warboy, he boasts previous releases on Fat Boy Slim’s much famed Southern Fried Records, along with DJ Spen’s label Unquantize and Hannah Holland's imprint Batty Bass.

His music style incorporates a variety of genres and influences plus his extensive experience DJ’ing alongside top International names in the world of House and Techno.

In the words of DJ Mag (UK)… “Warboy remains one of alternative clubland’s greatest forces who is constantly ahead of the curve”.

“Rebel Herd” starts with the building tension of a held chord that with devastating force, builds into an arpeggiated acid line. Uptempo, the relentless energy is tailor made for the dancefloor and a sure fire crowd pleaser. Techno focused with crisp percussion the track is like a tidal wave of sonic destruction.

The Willers Brothers hit Egg London’s What Came First label next week (Friday 26th May), with their four-track ‘Shimmy Shimmy EP’. We’ve got the exclusive play of its title track above.

On ‘Shimmy Shimmy’, the Egg residents – who have previously seen release through Beste Modus, No Fit State and Nordik – present a stripped-back tech-house groover that pushes percussion to the fore.

Speaking about the track, Liam Willers told DJ Mag, “We’re happy to be releasing this on Egg’s label after holding down a residency at the club for the past few years.”

Mute Records founder Daniel Miller returns to the club as part of our monumental 15th birthday celebrations on May 5th. A legend in his own right, Miller will be joined by NovaMute affiliates Terence Fixmer and Nicolas Bougaïeff to mark 20 years of the imprint.

Joining the WCF imprint with his 'Distorted Time EP', the Manchester based Transcode brings his driving sound to Egg LDN's in-house label to showcase his versatile approach to production.

With the vinyl press being released at the beginning of November, followed by the digital version, which includes the bonus track 'Backlash', due out on 14th December, the EP includes two remixes by the club's close friends Secret Cinema and OC & Verde.

'Timewarp' opens up the release, immediately setting a tripped out tone with its distorted vocals and a slightly menacing melody, which bubbles under the surface throughout the track.

'Rotation' is a slightly darker and dubber production complemented by crisp hi-hats and well-rounded drums. It is a perfect intro to building up an extended set.

Secret Cinema leaves his stamp on 'Timewarp' with an ominous Remix of Transcode's Original. Again, it fits into the shady feel of the EP but the Dutch producer brings an enchanting feel to the track, with a twinkling melody laced throughout.

Manchester based OC & Verde bring their stamp to the release with their remix of 'Rotation'. Using a blend of drawn-out synths to build up a powerful lead, packed with raw percussions, it certainly shows the sonic direction the duo has been working on over the last year.

Completing the digital edition with a bonus track, Transcode rounds off the EP with 'Backlash'. A punchy and unrelenting track, it's a peak time tune which is one of those tracks for a heaving dance floor to relish in what the Mancunian producer is all about.

With the dance floor in mind, WCF aims to introduce rising new talents as well as working with established artists across a range of musical genres from techno to house and chill-out to alternative. 

It is a great time for Egg London to look how far we have come musically over the years and for the label artists, inspired by the unique energy of the club, to synthetize this vibe into their productions and music that we all can enjoy.
