Biography:

Strife Asaakeezis was born Gabriel Guiboche in Dauphin, MB and was raised on his reserve of Pine Creek First Nation, MB (and neighbouring Metis town Camperville, MB) and in the city of Winnipeg, MB. Living in numerous broken homes Strife experienced many extreme forms of abuse and violence growing up which influenced him to use drugs and alcohol to cope with the pain. Constant movement and family dysfunctions lead him to live on the streets as he became familiar with the worst areas of the city plagued by gang activity. Often being the only native in his class during high school and experiencing racism left him feeling out of place. Being aware of the lies taught about his people in school influenced him to spend less time out of school and more time in dangerously troubled neighbourhoods. In bare basement studios in these areas Strife began to hone his skills as a music artist and producer expressing the life he experienced. Time spent in the studio was time avoided getting into trouble and offered a creative way of releasing frustrations and pains that tormented him throughout life. Today, Strife uses motivational speaking and his music in a positive way to reach his listeners and give hope to the youth he once was. Not having his own positive role model lead him to get clean and sober and become one himself to guide others to happiness in a good and healthy way. Strife has travelled to many First Nation communities to speak with the chief’s to help the members by addressing relevant issues in his speeches and performances such as suicide. Many fans have come forward expressing how Strife has saved their lives through his music and his story which is his mission, to improve lives. Though life has been a real struggle through life threatening circumstances, he is grateful for the knowledge and uses it in a positive way to help and relate to others that have lived through the same experiences. Living through violence against women and children, Strife wants to bring back the native matriarchal society where women ran communities and men protected them as supportive warriors. His dream is to unify his people and the world as a whole.
