Exclusive Speaking Minds & Armacord 'Jupiter Express'

Jennifer Cardini's label Correspondant kicks off 2019 with their various artists EP 'Numéro 01' which holds five exclusive tracks from artists like Damon Jee, EDE, Jenia Tarsol & Jinga, Joris Briesmans and Speaking Minds & Amarcord. The latter's contribution, 'Jupiter Express', is most likely one of the highly anticipated tracks of the EP and, for good reason, has been played out by several scene mainstays. 'Jupiter Express' implements a New Wave-vibe right with its first beat and chord and has the finger on the pulse of current electronic music developments. As the track progresses Speaking Minds & Amarcord add various synth-chord-variations in different octaves while a stomping bass line takes you on a ride into different spaces before further spacey soundscapes are skillfully added and a warm bleeping and echoing arpeggio rings in the finale of the 'Jupiter Express' and its arrival in a new musical and out of space world. 

Correspondant's various artist EP 'Numéro 01' will be released January 18th, 2019 on Correspondant.

A label made of three key players, Berlin’s SOLIDE recently expanded their family, welcoming fond musical acquaintances into the fold with a various artists compilation; Solid(e) State Vol 1. Resuming form, one third of the core, Kalyma, returns for another solo expedition to the club with his ‘Tanger Night Drive’ EP. Berlin-via-Gran Canaria, Kalyma’s percussive style of club music wields a certain charm. Whisking us away on a pacey drive through the Morrocan night, Kalyma rolls through the deep mysticism of Tangier in the title track; ‘Tanger Night Drive’. A pulsing kick and punky bass, meet the melodious tune of steel pan chimes and whispering crickets in the low-line. Tom rhythms and arpeggios intensify, encapsulating the racey, blissful energy of a night in Tangier. Making a complete U-turn, synth-led ‘Arlequin’ brings real rave emotion. Vibey percussion underpins the experience, whilst a distinct air of grit comes through in dubbed out, euphoric keys. Heart strings tug, souls stir, a second mesmeric piano line seals the deal; all elements combine and compliment. Closing out the journey, Ancient Egyptian devotee and Budapest native, Sobek comes through on the remix adding his distinguished touch to ‘Tanger Night Drive’; subverting the flow and capitalising on the toms, before adding his own depth with moody, semi-ominous twinges. Unveiling a staunch knowledge and passion for club music, Kalyma’s ‘Tanger Night Drive’ EP promises to steer dancefloors in new, unimagined directions.

ELAX’s latest “BESCIO” EP on Diynamic is very much like that favourite summer festival weekend that we are all looking forward to. Opening track “Bescio” is just full of raw energy synths, exciting percussive solos, a hypnotic bassline and disco drums that we hope will never end. Hot days and even hotter nights resonate in its essence. 

Then “With Lou” – we are packing up our things, reminiscing of this marvellous time we’ve just had together. Like warriors after battle, exhausted but endlessly happy. We see the last sunrays at the horizon of an orange sky that slowly turns pink and purple, as alternating breezes of warm and cold air ruffle through our hair. Wondering when we are going to do this all over again.

Remixes Part 2 (Superfriends Records)

Premiere: Andhim - Windows 85 (Viktor Talking Machine Remix) [Superfriends]

Greek wizard Echonomist arrives on TAU with the ‘Modern Wonder’ EP, featuring three original cuts and a remix from Ditian. Echonomist has been deep in the game for a long while and it’s safe to say he is Greece’s top DJ and producer of our times. He is an all-rounder who can DJ, produce and perform live with confidence and panache. After his exciting contribution to Dixon’s Transmoderna release alongside tracks by Ame, Trikk and others, ‘Modern Wonder’ sees Echonomist‘s debut with the TAU family.

Opening with ‘Eyes, the EP gets off to a dramatic start as moody synth lines and a driving bassline take us into the new wave zone. Echonomist demonstrates his flair for arrangement here, with a carefully arranged track that could almost have been performed by a band. The atmosphere is gloomy and emotive, taking us for a ride into the night as flickering neon reflects off the rain covered streets in a sleazy part of town.

The title track is next, raising the energy levels somewhat with punchy beats and a searing atmosphere. Female singer Iokatsi delivers a brief vocal over the breakdown before the track continues with its melancholy yet heartfelt narrative.

‘The Touch’ follows, taking us further into realms of synth heaven. The main riff is gnarly, with electro-fied beats and a simple yet catchy rhythm. Echonomist adds a perfectly placed synth way up high to complement the low end, creating uplifting moments that juxtapose the gruff bassline.

Finally Ditian’s ‘Snake’ remix of ‘Modern Wonder’ closes the EP. This a deep, dubby rework with heavy emphasis on the bass to begin with. Ditian takes the main vocal and chops it into pieces, using “You’re trapped” to increase the tense, chilling atmosphere. Detuned piano keys add to the macabre feeling as Ditian rolls out a nasty, haunting rework.
