An artist at the cutting edge of the progressive house movement with an unmistakeable sound and unrivalled talent, Dmitry Molosh continues to hit soaring heights with each successive release. As prolific as he is talented, the Belarusian star has been a regular on Proton Music since 2016 with remixes for the likes of Kastis Torrau, Trilucid & Phil Martyn, and Andrea Cassino & Greenage. November 2020 saw the release of his debut original track in "Little Friend" with interpretations from Imran Khan and LADS & Traumhouse, as Dmitry now follows up with "Winds of Change". Redolent in trademark percussive groove and deep kick, a grooved bassline holds interest firm as a heavy bass stab adds juxtaposed power. Subtle melodic flourishes in the form of free-flowing piano, add delicacy and lightness of touch as all elements combine in the second half to create a stunning new addition to the Dmitry Molosh portfolio.

A welcome returnee to Proton Music, Matter has a host of powerful original and remix material to his name, both under solo and collaborative guises, making him a firm favourite with the label faithful. Through his "Pronoia" and "We Are Dust" EPs, the Australian shone a light on his creative talent in 2016 and 2017, while collaborations with fellow Melbourne resident, GMJ, have seen the duo light up the label with a trio of original EPs. Remixes of Dousk, Embliss and Michael A have shone a different light on Matter's talent as he now returns with a typically impressive sound, characterised by a whip-cracking kick and rolling groove. A trademark bassline full of power and emotion muscles its way across the low end as subtle melodic touches hint at elements from Molosh's original. A glorious progression, layered with textured pads, form the perfect foundation for the piano so redolent in the original to take its rightful place at the centre, as arpeggios from the Matter arsenal wax and wane across the top. Building to a rousing crescendo at the mid-point the sequence hits its stride again in the third movement to incredible effect.

Regular collaborator with Nick Warren and highly talented artist in his own right, Nicolas Rada is an artist whose talent and creativity continues to grow with each successive release. An accomplished pianist, the Argentinean has seen his star shine ever brighter in the underground dance universe with his work signed for the likes of Armen Miran's Hoomidaas, Nick Warren's The Soundarden and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. A trio of remixes for Andre Sobota, Matter and Rick Pier O'Neil between 2017 and 2019 have lit up the Proton Music catalogue and it is now an honour to welcome back Nicolas Rada. With a glorious remix that glitters in an understated energy, an arpeggio rich in shimmering delay ripples across the 8-minute track. Combined elegantly with Molosh's piano parts, a collage of sounds and textures build and fall away amid a lavish rhythmic gem. A metronomic kick holds the melodic elements in check as a clicking, ticking percussive top-line adds groove aplenty in a reworking that showcases all Rada's skill, craftsmanship and technique.

Rising out of Germany’s electronic underground and making his microcastle debut is Yubik. Based in Munich and conceptualized in 2018, the Yubik project has achieved measurable success in relatively short order. Initial releases courtesy of MoBlack and Stil Vor Talent set the course for well received projects via Atlant, Oddity and Radikon. Seemingly in constant evolution, the German artist’s ingenious scope has continued to grow and mature as 2021 reaches its second quarter, opening up endless creative avenues and furthering his boundless appeal. With his latest Atlant vehicle ‘The Veil’ getting the year underway in style and forthcoming music signed to Adana Twins’ TAU imprint, Yubik continues his explorative path with his microcastle debut ‘Riot Romance’.

Comprised of four distinctive and equally compelling creations, it is the charming melodies of ‘Face The Truth’ which get the release underway. Instantly seductive, it’s robust breakbeats and buoyant rhythms marry perfectly with spacious percussion and fragmented vocals. Coming to full fruition during the second act, Yubik’s musical prowess is on full display, as a memorable melodic lead rises, conjuring up bucolic imagery while remaining undeniably infectious across a spirited finale. Selection two ‘Riot Romance’ is replete with evolving, emotional and hypnotizing structures. Yubik allows the listener to relish in the groove, building anticipation towards an apex of soaring riffs and slo-mo synth swagger.

The elusive ‘Shiver On Shorashim’ further solidifies Yubik’s transcendent abilities. Anchored by shuddering bass tones and contemplative synth phrasing, it sits comfortably between the arcane and enlightened. Rising into an expansive break, hopeful atmospheres eventually melt down amidst waves of white noise, while expressive modulation moves forward with a barrage of speaker-buzzing revelry. Adding further depth and rounding out the release are the broken beats, astral arps and tension filled soundscapes of ‘Children Of Disobedience’. A shadowy journey into strange, surreal electronic hinterlands, perhaps an intro or mid-set piece for the more adventurous DJs out there, it caps off a collection of bold and bracing electronic innovations from the talented German artist.

Yubik effortlessly dodges any single genre with ‘Riot Romance’, opting for a crushingly catchy collection steeped in colourful musicality and thought-provoking atmospherics.

@listentobec returns to Second State serving up four sensational techno cuts and a trippy remix by Pan-Pot.

Pulsating title track ‘Pleasure Seeker’ kicks off the EP. This high-impact percussive workout that seizes listeners attention with galloping kicks and snare rolls. A commanding female vocal sample purrs the track’s name over and over. Echoing electro tones twist and turn throughout, creating a complex, brooding energy. ‘The Truth’ lays focus on a heavier rave-esque sound, enlisting a hammering rounded kick drum to open the track. From a distance, a single angelic note swirls and holds, then slowly builds. Sonic snaps fly back and forth in a scattered flurry of sound while a vocal sample with twisted distortion growls harsh truths. Dense rave chords slice through the noise to close out.

‘Reaching Nirvana’ opens the B-side of the record, bringing an elaborate balance between peaceful melodies and powerful techno. Joyful and fast-paced major chords dance over a driving kick drum, while snares and hi-hats crash and sound in tandem with one another. A siren rings out amongst the breakdown before being rejoined by the melody to close. Pan-Pot’s UKW remix of ‘Pleasure Seeker’ is up next and closes down the vinyl, transforming the title track into a heavyweight techno roller. Bleating synth keys add pressure and intensity that surge throughout. Kick drums and snares take charge in percussion while cymbals flicker above. The vocal that once dominated the original cut has been chopped up and distorted.

On the last track of the EP, ‘Trusting The Mystery’, synth notes wain like a siren at the beginning before evolving into an elaborate meandering melody. The kick bounces and punches through a flurry of noise with razor-sharp hi-hats whipping and sniping through. A plucking bass discreetly adds robust power to this digital only treat.

Ruede Hagelstein and Watergate go hand in hand. Not only is Ruede one of the longest running residents at the club, but he's also the man behind some of the label's most acclaimed music and the curator responsible for lucky number 13 in the illustrious Watergate mix series. With this, it seemed obvious to put Ruede up to his next task: an album. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we bring you the first LP for both, Ruede and Watergate Records, Apophenia. 

Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data, and for Ruede, this is the perfect interpretation to describe his writing process, in which ideas appear from the empty, chaotic darkness. A random chord progression or percussion arrangement opens the door to the imagination where structures appear and begin to take shape. Unlike most of his previous work, Apophenia is not strictly attached to the dance floor, but created to fit just as seamless while listening at home as it is in the club. For over a year, Ruede collected ideas and visualized his plan. It was important not to mimic his earlier work, but to focus on a certain sound. While staying minimalistic yet extremely organic and melodic he has created a timeless long player.

While the LP spans a range of emotions, it is always grounded in Ruede's unparalleled, singular sound. Pair that with some notable features from artists like PillowTalk, Hollis P. Monroe & Overnite, Justin Evans and C.A.R. and you have a plethora of dazzling music. With tracks like "Moon Rabbit", "Life Is A Beach" and "Found A Place" Ruede displays the sound of a night at the club while "Already Undone feat. Pillowtalk" and "Pareidolia" take rides through the deeper, emotional spaces. In the end, "Apophenia" is the perfect display of not just Ruede's artistry, but Watergate's musical vision, which together, create an illustrious and undeniable entity.

Over the course of the past four years, ATTLAS has become one of mau5trap’s most celebrated artists. Canadian musician Jeff Hartford’s enthusiasm for music began at a young age, he grew up playing in bands and learning instruments like piano, trumpet, and guitar. His immersion in songwriting continued to grow when he attended university, and he interned for a composer after completing his courses. It was during this time that he started applying the techniques he’d learned in the studio to electronic music and began sending his completed works to deadmau5’s mau5trap label. The label initially signed a few tracks and then ATTLAS as an artist, and Hartford released three EPs in 2015 via the Canadian imprint. In the years since then, he’s delivered singles, EPs, and remixes – all showcasing the textured, introspective sound he’s spent years cultivating.

'The 39th release sees Anton MAKe, a Kazan (Russia) based artist, make his return to Juicebox Music with an EP featuring "Alya" & "Midsommar".

His first appearance on our imprint came through a massive remix of Berni Turletti & Matias Chilano's "Alumine" back in mid-2019, a subtle yet powerful interpretation that easily became a favorite selection in many sets. As usual, groove, melody and absolute dancefloor suitability are combined in perfection and make this release a real highlight again. High production standards and a certain feeling for the interaction of the individual sounds characterize Timo's very own sound and make it unmistakably his own.

When people ask what's my favorite place (outside Burning Man) to DJ, The Bow in Buenos Aires is always in my top 3. Most track breakdowns are met with huge cheers, and even when the night ends, the crowd refuses to go home as they hang around after 6am demanding more music. It’s really a DJ’s dream. Another thing I love about The Bow is that it’s a 3000 person club, but the DJ booth is pretty low to the ground and within arm’s reach of the audience. The club has the perfect blend of energy and intimacy that holds a dear place in my heart.

This is a recording from my 2017 set at The Bow. Once this pandemic ends, I desperately hope to play there again. It’s a bit on the driving side, but takes a couple turns towards the deeper side to balance it out. Hope you enjoy!
