In March 2022, Jiminy Hop released his dazzling 3-track "Johlin" EP to widespread critical acclaim. Meanwhile now revisits the EP with a remix of "Colatrix" from Australian legend and label co-founder, Matter.

Matty Doyle has been at the cutting edge of underground house for over a decade with his Matter pseudonym. A leading exponent of the modern progressive sound, his trademark basslines and captivating rhythmic backdrops have lit up clubs across the globe. Often in collaboration with friend and fellow Melbourne resident, GMJ, Matter's music has found favour among such illustrious imprints as Anjunadeep, Proton Music, Mango Alley and onedotsixtwo. Furthermore, over 40 production credits have found their way onto Meanwhile and Meanwhile Horizons, with the latter accounting for November 2011's full album debut, "Starchild".

Returning to the flagship imprint, home of November 2020's "Amanita" and January 2022's "Banksia", the Matter remix of "Colatrix" is propelled forward with a thumping kick and shaker-fuelled top line. Adding a buttery smooth arpeggio to proceedings that deliciously filters as it develops, familiar melodic elements from Jiminy Hop's track drift across the 8-minute offering. Sumptuous pads, fizzing with white-noise energy, pulsate through the post-breakdown denouement as Matter finds a way to extend the original in new and vibrant directions.

As Matter revisits Jiminy Hop with trademark elegance and brio "Colatrix" is given another opportunity to shine brightly in multi-faceted beauty.

Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint rounds out the month of April by showcasing new interpretations of 'Amirim' by Choopie and Golan Zocher. With a career that spans the better part of three decades, Israeli artist Choopie is widely regarded as one of his country's premiere electronic music talents. Releases via Bedrock and Yoshitoshi laid the groundwork for what has been a storied career, one which has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. Meanwhile, Colombian born, Israel based artist Golan Zocher has enjoyed similar success across his five-year career, landing releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Paired occasionally since 2020, Choopie and Golan have masterfully synthesized their talents and found that creative balance between progressive and organic house, taking their enchanting sound to Mango Alley, Sol Selectas and Choopie's own Agnosia Black imprint. Madloch's Sound Avenue has also been a landing spot for the duo, with 'Alush' highlighting the label's popular Correlation series in 2021, ultimately leading to 2022's three-track showcase 'Amirim'. Now, looking to build on the success of 'Amirim', Sound Avenue invites Kyotto, Inherent (AU)
and Figueras to re-imagine the EP for 2023's spring season.

The Caribbean based producer already has releases under his belt on infamous labels such as Watergate and All Day I Dream, and can count Lee Burridge and Tim Green to his fanbase. That fact is not a surprise when you listen to both 'Mostly Sunny' and 'Mia', two flawlessly produced organic feel good songs with the word 'sunshine' written all over them in capitals.

Argentina's Analog Jungs deliver a stellar remix that preserves the essence of the original track while adding their own flavour.

'A rising star from South America, Ric Niels has lit up the progressive house scene over the past three years. Now joining the Proportion roster, the Argentinean artist releases his “Pirate / Psyncopath” EP.

Renowned for his evocative and emotive sound, Ric Niels has found himself courted by some of the finest modern imprints through his fusing of analogue and digital synths to create a blend of deep, organic and tech sounds. As such, his music has found a welcome home on such celebrated imprints as The Soundgarden, Particles, Plaisirs Sonores and Mango Alley. Almost a half-century of production credits can thus be found for the latter in both solo and collaborative guises with Ric seeing work with Dowden, The Wash and Mango himself grace the Russian imprint.

Supported by an elite DJ cast list that includes the likes of Nick Warren, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Henry Saiz, it is not difficult to see why the Argentinean from Chaco Province has continued to be such a sought-after producer within the progressive house fraternity. Opening his Proportion account with a scintillating musical diptych, “Pirate” immediately grabs listener attention with its pounding beat and deep bassline groove. Light percussive touches pervade the dense sonic layers as trademark melodic prowess reveals itself through a dynamic dancefloor backdrop. Cascading synth lines and delay-infused arpeggios ripple across the soundstage, coming to the fore at a striped back breakdown before a growling bass riff heralds an exciting final movement full of potency and drive.

Pulling the listener in with a shaker-fuelled percussive line and chest-thumping kick, “Psyncopath” provides the hallmark rhythmic poise for which Ric Niels has become renowned for. Full of sinister menace, a creeping bassline pattern and textured pads swim dizzyingly across the stereo spectrum in the early stages before a filtered arpeggio wends its way onto the main stage with poise and verve. Infused with white-noise at a mid-point chock full of sonic layers and captivating melodic characters, the final movement drives effortlessly forward as the hypnotic groove once again finds it mark.

'Higher States opens the summer season by showcasing new interpretations of Roger Martinez's 'De Machtige Trip'. With a career now spanning well over a decade, Roger's transcendent style has long been a favourite of the world's top DJs. Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, John Digweed, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sasha have all been steadfast supporters over the years, and remain as progressive music continues to grow and evolve. Sitting prominently on Roger's resume as one of his most well-received tracks has been 'De Machtige Trip'. Released in 2013 via GEM Records, the production was beloved for its timeless musicality and pristine techno framework, ultimately finding a place in a wide assortment of DJ sets. Now, looking to breathe new life into the track for 2023's summer season, Higher States invites Alex O'Rion and Roger himself to re-imagine the production in their own essence.

Leading the release off is Roger’s 2023 rendition which once again proves his craft must be taken to heart. Rather than burst into a dancefloor whirlwind or electronic symphony, Roger’s update evokes its emotions through slow burn repetition. Dodging expectations and emphasizing its conceptual charm, it paints idyllic scenes of solitude, as hypnagogic arps unveil a semi-conscious dreamland powered by perfectly manicured beats and rebounding rhythms, before the Dutch artist's melodic attitude reveals itself during a second act of colourful synth phrasing and mesmerizing progression. 

Making a return to the label with the second and final interpretation of ‘De Machtige Trip’ is Alex O’Rion. Rising out of a successful career as a trance producer, Dutch artist Alex O’Rion took inspiration from the likes of John Digweed, Nick Warren and Sasha, to forge a path into the world of progressive house. Alex’s groovy melodic sound found its footing quickly thereafter, as he notched releases via Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. Moving forward, 2020 proved to be a breakout year for the Nijkerk resident. On the strength of projects for Replug and The Soundgarden, Alex rose to Beatport’s #3 best-selling progressive house producer, paving the way for releases via Guy J’s Lost and Found and UK behemoth Anjunabeats. Having continued on an upwards trajectory moving forward, Alex now sits comfortably amongst the genre’s elite as he continues to tour the world, delighting crowds with his impeccable taste and exquisite programming skills. Having made his Higher States debut in 2020 with ‘Imagine’, an EP co-produced with Antrim, Alex now makes a welcome return to the label with a groovy take on ‘De Machtige Trip’. While maintaining the uplifting spirit of the original, the Dutch phenom crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, a deep hypnotic journey where voluptuous basslines provide the backbone for invigorating melodies and balmy textures to surface from their rhythmic architecture, onwards to a finale of emotive grooves and speaker-buzzing revelry.'
