A longstanding artist within the dance music fraternity, Igal Magitman has continued to find himself at the leading edge of the underground house movement. Over 200 production credits adorn the Israeli's production portfolio including an array of releases for Proton Music that began in 2008. Remixes for Andre Sobota, Rick Pier O'Neil and Andrea Cassino have followed and Magitman now makes his solo EP debut with the twin-track "To the Mood and Back".

The title track is a beautifully arranged piece that revels in loquacious vocal cut and head-shaking bass groove. Evolving intelligently, a muted organ riff comes to the fore as a distorted vocal reprise appears in intermittent patterns. The full vocal makes its presence felt at the breakdown before "To the Mood and Back" picks up the pace once again in the second half. "Knock About" continues the smooth melodic narrative of its predecessor as a rolling percussive groove supplies dancefloor character. Free-flowing organ phrases and chopped up phrases create a perfectly syncopated melodic collage which comes to the fore at the breakdown before the funk-fuelled combination of rhythm and melody emerges once more in the third movement.

Building throughout, layers of sound create a constantly evolving dancefloor groove that makes elegant use of the chords prevalent in the original, while glorious spot effects and ambient sounds pan the stereo spectrum giving depth and space. The result is another creative masterpiece from the Jamie Stevens studio.

Owner of the rapidly growing Flug Lab imprint, Lisandro is a relatively new name to the underground dance scene. Music signed to such revered imprints as Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas and Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, a Proton Music debut saw an impressive reworking of Erdi Irmak's "Echoes in Time" in May 2020. Now returning, Lisandro has created a club-friendly vibe and rolling groove as he uses the central melodic themes from "To The Mood and Back" to dynamic effect. The vocal phrasing so prominent in the original makes a more considered play as it sits further back in the mix, revealed fully at the breakdown. Building into the second half, beats and melody combine sumptuously in the third movement to create a joyous reworking of Magitman's track.

Accompanied by Jamie Stevens and Lisandro, Magitman has created a convivial atmosphere "To the Mood and Back".

Ruede Hagelstein and Watergate go hand in hand. Not only is Ruede one of the longest running residents at the club, but he's also the man behind some of the label's most acclaimed music and the curator responsible for lucky number 13 in the illustrious Watergate mix series. With this, it seemed obvious to put Ruede up to his next task: an album. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we bring you the first LP for both, Ruede and Watergate Records, Apophenia. 

Apophenia is the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data, and for Ruede, this is the perfect interpretation to describe his writing process, in which ideas appear from the empty, chaotic darkness. A random chord progression or percussion arrangement opens the door to the imagination where structures appear and begin to take shape. Unlike most of his previous work, Apophenia is not strictly attached to the dance floor, but created to fit just as seamless while listening at home as it is in the club. For over a year, Ruede collected ideas and visualized his plan. It was important not to mimic his earlier work, but to focus on a certain sound. While staying minimalistic yet extremely organic and melodic he has created a timeless long player.

While the LP spans a range of emotions, it is always grounded in Ruede's unparalleled, singular sound. Pair that with some notable features from artists like PillowTalk, Hollis P. Monroe & Overnite, Justin Evans and C.A.R. and you have a plethora of dazzling music. With tracks like "Moon Rabbit", "Life Is A Beach" and "Found A Place" Ruede displays the sound of a night at the club while "Already Undone feat. Pillowtalk" and "Pareidolia" take rides through the deeper, emotional spaces. In the end, "Apophenia" is the perfect display of not just Ruede's artistry, but Watergate's musical vision, which together, create an illustrious and undeniable entity.

DHB Premiere: Lisandro (AR) - The Garden (Canopy Sounds)

Giorgia Angiuli, during the lockdown invited producers and musicians from around the world to help her creating a track in support of the Italian Red Cross. She got hundreds of ideas and released a beautiful single and videoclip on her new label UNITED.  Giorgia created a contest asking producers to create also remixes.

She opened her label UNITED with the aim of creating a free network of producers and music lovers, interested in discovering new topics between art, electronic music, for the pleasure of sharing their passion and gratitude.

She will release only projects that make feel her very motivated, considering the label a platform for learning and sharing new experiences, creating interesting connections. Giorgia says “Never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never stop learning”.

This third release on her new label is a package of 4 remixes of the single United.

She invited, as special guest, the young, super talented and humble Tim Engelhardt, a German producer and live act. The other 3 remixes were selected after the contest. It was not an easy decision because she got many fantastic ideas.

Corpino, created a very original and fresh electronic mix, please wear your headphones to enjoy it at the maximum.

Here is what Mira writes about the idea behind the compilation:
For the past ten years now, I’ve celebrated my birthdays by inviting all my favorite cats to play – we started off at Kater Holzig before moving to our home at Kater Blau in 2015. For the first time since it started, and for obvious reasons, 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch won’t be happening, on what would have been the tenth anniversary of
the series.

I’ve been wondering for a while now how I can make up for the missed year - streams already feel a bit outdated, and you just can’t imagine the vibe of the event without actually being there, getting beautifully lost in those days and nights, hugging old friends and making new ones. You can’t even explain that feeling, so you definitely can’t live-stream it.

Instead, this year 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch will be a compilation of some of the amazing artists from the past ten years, and even some of the new faces I would have booked this year. In a way, it’s the perfect souvenir of all the nights we’ve had so far, and an idea of what to look forward to in all the nights to come at Kater Blau
somewhere in the future.

The compilation will be split into two sections: Heinz Hopper and Acidbogen, reflecting the two floors of Kater Blau, each with their own special flavor and sound. The whole record is programmed the way I would schedule the artists across the two floors for my birthday, warming up at the start before things start getting more
intense later on. I guess you could say it’s a concept album, in which the audience wanders into our lovely little circus on the river Spree, and experiences one of my birthdays from start to finish, split across both floors of Kater Blau.

Much like my parties and my sets, the idea is for the listener to get lost in these tracks and to experience them as a whole piece. At the end of it all you leave with a feeling that maybe, just maybe, cats & music were the answers after all. Even in times like these.
