As you may have guessed by our extensive coverage of all things Jeudi, we're quite the fans of Doctor Dru's imprint here at Data Transmission, with the outlet quickly becoming one of favourite labels in recent times. For the Hamburg outpost's latest trick, they welcome back Monte, who – you might well recall – impressed upon on the label with a number of releases that arrived to to great fanfare last year and thanks to the glorious sounds of the 'Radical' EP, we’re delighted to announce that the man behind the music has lost none of his nous in the intervening time.

The action gets underway thanks to title track and our choice for premiere, ‘Radical’, a rollicking rollercoaster of a track aimed squarely at peak time dance floors which motors along to give clubbers something to really sink their teeth into. Slickly driven synth lines underpin a sparse yet menacing vocal line full of promise, with the track heaving along as it flexes its production prowess for a cut sure to be finding its way into the sets of house music's more discerning selectors upon release. Backed by a remix from Man Power and frenetic B-side 'Simpler', which jam packed with off kilter energy, is similarly sure to pick up plenty of attention during the small hours in the coming months and add a spine-tingling sense of drama to any set it pervades.

Monte - Radical

Reset Robot has given us two tracks that are absolutely on fire. ‘Rebellion’ is a slow burning, after-hours groover that packs a punch and harnesses percussion elements to the full effect. ‘The Hanging Gardens Of Babylon’ is a lot more of a melancholic offering and leads into a beautiful crescendo to finish any night off in style.

Hot on the heels of the monster release of “Mutter” on Gerd Janson’s Running Back, Konstantin Sibold has delivered an acid remix for the Danish experimental pop band WhoMadeWho.

The original song, an infectious 3-minute pop ballad has been mutated and stretched out into a pulsating acid track, aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Tomas Høffding’s vocals sit proudly over a thumping kick drum and result in 7 minutes of potent, almost ominous club music that sits resolutely at the low end of the pH scale.

A standout track in the Frenchmen’s captivating live sets over the past 12 months, ‘Chain Reaction’ finally drops after highlighting performances everywhere from Paradise at DC10 to Oasis Festival in Marrakesh. 

Led by an infectious hook-laden bassline crafted with the artists’ beloved MOOG Voyager, the track has been an evolving work in progress over months of tireless gigs and studio sessions, as layers of deep pads and effects have progressively been added to create this plump, rumbling beauty. 

The key to Rodriguez Jr.’s production is the ying and yang contrasts to his sonic aesthetic; on one hand they’re fiercely functional and deadly effective on the dancefloor, while on the other, their natural hook-driven characteristics mean they’re remembered long after the first play. 

‘Two Miles Away’ epitomizes this approach; a dizzyingly beautiful melodic gem that feels at once like it was custom-made to soundtrack a morning set, while its subtle toe-curling key change makes it a distinctive addition to his back catalogue. 

Of the track, Rodriguez Jr. says: “It was written and recorded in one night. I was just jamming on the Moog synthesizer and trying to do something with a solid drive, without losing a strong emotional side. It’s been inspiring to record in this spontaneous way, without thinking about the final result and just record in the moment.”

@uponyourecords verbindet Menschen. Das beste Beispiel dafür ist die EP namens „Follow The Machines“, die bereits am 8. März 2017 erschien. Die Kollektion wurde in Kollaboration zwischen Sylvain Soulier und Joseph Thomas Price kreiert, die unter ihren Pseudonymen @thirdsonuk und @darlynvlys besser bekannt sind. Neben drei Original-Songs umfasst die EP einen Remix vom Produzenten-Gespann @eins_tiefer. Nico Bulla und Vincent Probst, die sich hinter dem Alias verbergen, wollten anfangs den Remix mit mehr Zug nach vorne gestalten. Rausgekommen ist dabei ein Acid-Remix der nicht richtig gepasst habe. „Beim zweiten Versuch sind wir etwas reduzierter an die Sache herangegangen, was sich letztendlich bewährt hat“, so das Duo. ‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.
