Watergate family member Matthias Meyer returns with his first original material in more than a year, teaming up with rising Dutch talent Budakid for a debut collaboration. 

Meyer’s contributions to Watergate’s imprint are never short of supreme; from his link-ups with Ryan Davis ‘Love Letters to Sicily’ and ‘Crying June / Cafuné’, to his beloved Watergate 20 mix, the artist has a sublime talent for crafting uniquely emotional music minus the clichés. Having launched his own label Strangely Enough in early 2020, he’s output is notoriously measured, never one to rush the creative process. The link-up with Budakid – who first debuted on the label last summer with the beautiful ‘Orrery’ on ‘Watergate Affairs 04’ – is inspired. The Dutchman previously caught ears with quality cuts on Lost & Found, Disco Halal and Last Night on Earth and has been on the Oberbaumbrücke radar ever since he played the ‘Thursdate’ party in 2019 for Einmusika.

‘Sweet Ease’ is a straight-up hit, driven by a retro-tinged synth that nail both sentimentality and originality in the space of six-and-a-half minutes. ‘Hybrid Society’ is its gentler companion, made for late moments, as swirls of melody twinkle in the air. No surprise both tracks went down a treat when played at Watergate’s recent open-air parties at Sage Beach.

A fitting track by name and nature, ‘Devious’ is one of those gems that rises and rises and rises in pressure and momentum then – after an epic tease – lets off steam in the wildest possible way… Only to build up the pressure once again. Late night fun for the most deviant of dances, this is the type of track we all dreamt about during our time away from the rave. Trust us: this kicks off!

It's backed up by the left-of-field melon twister ‘80808’. Dreamy by design, trippy in spirit, heavy in dynamics, this type of gem instigates momentary dancefloor introspection as the vocal plays tricks with your mind and the sinewy acid line weaves in between the numbers hypnotically. Timeless trickery that seems tailor made for this label. Fans of the OG Bedrock sound will be all over this.

Wrapping up this eventful year for Last Night On Earth - we have one more release that we have been treasuring for months now. Off the back of ‘Nalo’ - his collaboration with Sasha on the LNOE TEN compilation - Lake Turner will be making his solo LNOE debut next month with his four-track EP; ‘Further Now’.

Andrew Halford aka Lake Turner is a London-based musician who previously made music in post-punk and indie groups Great Eskimo Hoax (Rallye) and Trophy Wife (Moshi Moshi). His debut full length ‘Videosphere’ was released on Kompakt in 2020 receiving plaudits from The Guardian. It was the first time he fully articulated his own vision of electronic music. 

The kaleidoscopic  ‘Further Now’ EP showcases Lake Turner’s ever expanding sonic palette in the electronic realm, and brings some fresh angles - including a triumphant collaboration with Brazilian producer Gui Boratto. 

Lake Turner: "Working with Gui on Repeater was super special for me;  his music was a gateway into the electronic world I currently operate in. He was one of the first electronic producers I heard using guitars in techno music & as a guitar player it signalled to me that it was acceptable to do so. Ironically there's no guitars in the track we made together but do feel like what we've created is fresh out of the can."

M.A.N.D.Y. aka Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung, and Booka Shade, aka Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, are Get Physical co-founders alongside DJ T., and 'Body Language' is one of the label's, as well as dance music's, biggest ever tunes. Released in 2005, it defined an entire generation of house music and spawned myriad copycats in its wake as well as making household names of the artists behind it. It became an instant classic that worked as well in cosy clubs as it did on festival main stages and it has remained an ever-green house anthem. The influential track has been sampled many times over the years but nothing beats the original.

The chunky house drums still sound from the future today, with fleshy hits and warming bass. What makes it such a standout track, though, is the gorgeous melodic hook that rides up and down the scale. Those soft focus notes are full of subtle but playful soul that never fails to unify a crowd, bring smiles to faces, and get hands in the air.

The first to remix is acclaimed German artist Patrice Bäumel. He is a master of stylish and deep house and techno with expressive synth work on labels like Kompakt and his own HALO. His superb version is a complete overhaul with deeper drums and a sense of late-night tension that is released in glorious fashion when the iconic melody comes in. It's the sort of tune that is suited to 4 am dance floors and will take things to the next level. The second remix comes from fellow German HOSH. For many years a core part of the Diynamic family he is also the founder of the fryhide imprint and an assured underground talent. He layers in some fresh and airy breakbeats to power along an expansive remix. After a long and atmospheric build with plenty of cosmic synth work, the original melody arrives during a breakdown and then plays out over the suspensory grooves.

This is a superb package that brings a widely loved favourite back to the fore with contemporary remixes and a fresh remaster.

OC & Verde made a splash on Yoshitoshi last summer with their huge remix of Veerus’s “Beat That,” topping the progressive house charts with one of our favorite records of 2017. We knew it was only a matter of time before we invited them back for a proper single. Not only did they deliver something spectacular, they did it with the help of one of our favorite up-and-coming duos, Londoners Eli & Fur.

“Sweet Perfection” delivers the goods with the boys’ glistening production and the girls’ gorgeous vocals. The track is at once deep, driving, and enticing, a fine effort from two of the UK’s most exciting acts and a fitting release to help kick off 2018. We’ve also included their ‘Stranger Things’ dub, which strips the original of its vocal for a darker affair.

Label boss Sharam contributes what is already his second remix of 2018, continuing the signature sound he put forth on his recent Collecti album. His remix is a groovy techno journey laced with his signature drum n’ bass and melodic influences, creating a dynamic dance floor weapon. Sharam also offers a ‘Crazi dub’ incarnation of his remix, which draws more from the head-turning techno side of his production prowess.

'Yoshitoshi Celebrates 25 Years with Three Genre-Focused Compilations : House, Techno, Melodic House.

For the Melodic House edition of Yoshitoshi 25, we’ve focused on the tracks that were either too proggy for house or too melodic for techno. Many house historians would claim that this sound has been Yoshitoshi’s bread and butter throughout the years, and this final entry into the Yoshitoshi 25 compilation series demonstrates exactly why. As with the other two compilations, we’ve selected a handful of freshly remastered, stone-cold classics such as PQM’s “You Are Sleeping (Luke Chable Mix),” Valentino’s “Flying,” and Morel’s “True (The F****t Is You - Deep Dish Remix),” and mixed them up with the most memorable modern records from Yoshitoshi’s catalogue like OC & Verde’s “Indica,” Khainz’s “Collider,” and Red Axes’ remix of Dino Lenny’s “I Feel Stereo.” Of course the package wouldn’t be complete without some new remixes, so Sharam and Armonica have delivered some beautifully-crafted reworks of Yoshitoshi classics. Sharam takes on Luzon’s mega-classic “The Baguio Track,” turning the tune into a dark roller that has been the talk of his recent Burning Man sets. Armonica crafted an amazing remix of Anarcrusan’s “In My Mind” that winds gracefully between delicate, dreamy riffs and bouncy, bass-driven breakdowns. The final package is a perfect way to end the Yoshitoshi 25 series, giving both new listeners and longtime fans of the label an expansive view of the label’s legacy. Look out for it December 13th on Beatport and streaming platforms.'
