What a start to Selador’s twelfth year. We were delighted when Dilby debuted for us recently with the vocal gem ‘Give It Up Again’ – and we’re doubly delighted to follow it up in double quick time with this essential EP. 

The Berlin-based Kiwi straddles genres effortlessly, and subsequently finds his tunes in the boxes of a wide variety of DJs. This stellar selection will no doubt follow suit. 

We kick things off with ‘Sacred Ground’ a majestic roller with a classic ‘90s feel that hits the spot in all the right places before dropping to a distinctive ‘dread’ vocal. ‘Closer’ then steps up with its rolling percussive intro paving the way for duelling riffs, a real early ‘00s classy heads down vibe for this one. And our titanic triptych is completed by the aforementioned ‘Give It Up Again’, which is more than worthy of another trip round the block as a reminder of its undeniable potency.

Musique de Lune closes out the winter season by welcoming Saudade to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from India but now calling Belgium home, Rahul Phogat aka Saudade, has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of progressive and organic house, resulting in a short but meticulous discography that present’s a resonant worldly sound. Inspiration from classical music luminaries in Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Sultan Khan, have fuelling Suadade’s journey, making him one India’s most intriguing up and coming talents. On the strength of his debut release, a 2021 offering via A Tribe Called Kotori, the Antwerp resident would go on to choose his projects wisely across the next three calendar years, notching releases for Bridges For Music, Plano B, Manual Music and Mobilee Records, the latter of which was a contribution to the label's 'Zooom' series. Now, continuing on an upwards trajectory into 2025, Saudade adds Musique de Lune to his resume with a three-track showcase 'Childishness'.

Comprised of three stylized original productions, it is the dulcet monochromes of 'Nyepi' which set the tone for the release. Saudade crafts a deeply moving piece, complete with poignant pianos, neatly manicured percussion and a splash of soulful instrumentation, the latter of which forecasts what’s to come on selection two ‘Childishness’. Decisively more club-oriented, it’s an array of exotic drums and percussion which makes this such an inspired creation, one which flows through Mediterranean tones and operatic vocals, before reverberating into creaming electronics for a smooth finale. Acting as the release’s closer are the deep heartrending sounds of ‘Drowning’, a tasteful journey through chunky basslines, playful cascades and soulful vocal phrasing. An amalgamation of sound which not only proves to be emotive, but also timeless and cerebral in equal measure. A thought providing and uniquely satisfying selection from Saudade, who at just six releases into his discography already has the flair of a veteran artist. Highly recommended.
