PR: The latest microcastle release welcomes the unique and exceptionally talented Upercent to the label for his debut EP. Born in Valencia, this thought provoking, emotive artist has steadily developed a distinctive style that fuses organic and analog sounds with masterful creativity, perfectionism and constant innovation, making him one of the most naturally talented producers to emerge from the Spanish scene. Upercent’s uncanny ability to tell captivating stories through his music has seen him evolve and raise the creative bar with outstanding releases on Kompakt, Diynamic, Monaberry and Endless. Now making his microcastle debut with the three track artist showcase ‘Vuit’, Upercent presents some of the most eclectic productions of his career alongside a remix from Chaim.

The EP begins with its title track and first showcase piece ‘Vuit’. Built on a deep, meditative groove, the piece develops with a unique hypnotic charm. Upercent’s use of distinctive percussive elements, eastern motifs and clever dub styling, creates an instantly memorable introduction to a pure master at work. From its metronomic chiming base, with ‘Tango’ it’s the arrangement of organic designs that makes yet another undeniably original creation. In fact, it’s a supremely delicious smorgasbord of afro elements that masterfully builds towards the unveiling of a heart-melting piano in the final act, revealing the unrivalled steamy aspects of the classic South American dance to perfection.

Take a treated guitar along with a multitude of distinctive elements, add some jaw-droppingly, seductive tones, and breathe everything deeply into a stripped back arrangement laced with analog stabs, while drawing on the experimental attitude of freeform jazz and you have the third offering ‘Submissive’. But, Upercent’s masterstroke here is to collaborate and introduce the sublime vocals of Dwayzo Lawrence aka KnowKontrol, from Syracuse, NY. This multi-genre artist has a complementary, experimental attitude that channels his inimitable ability to inject an already profound track with authentic soul. A precious talent that has already seen him collaborate with some of the electronic world’s finest innovators and labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Drumcode, Rebellion and Keinemusik.

To complete this already creative package, microcastle has enlisted the remix talents of Berlin-based artist Chaim. The renowned musician, DJ, producer and Tel Aviv native has long been one of electronic music's most fascinating artists. Having previously remixed the likes of Art Department, Pete Tong and Ellen Allien, his organic, forward-thinking music has found a home on BPitch Control, Cocoon, Culprit, Disco Halal, Rumors and Turbo. As an artist bound by no genre, but tuned into expressions of liberation and joy, Chaim creates music that is truly universal and is the perfect choice to re-interpret ‘Submissive’. Chaim nails down a backbone of tough, incessant, hypnotic beats, complemented by a seductive blend of evolving, tribal percussion, while reprocessing KnowKontrol’s vocal into a mesmerizing, magical spell, that forms the perfect finale to this stunning four track audio adventure. Upercent’s ‘Vuit EP’ is a showcase that offers a unique insight into the creative, musical mind of an artist whose talent knows no boundaries.

The next discovery leads us to Rotterdam, the base of Joep Esseling and Bram Harmsen’s project “Esteble”. Ask yourself: can you describe what your morning will be like tomorrow? Not just the part when you, say, wake up, brush your teeth and go about your business. That’s not really describing, that’s just listing or rather predicting your morning routine. Just try to describe your morning: what will you first silhouette in the darkness? How will the sun show up and in what colors will the clouds be lit up that day? Which parts will receive the first rays of the new rising sun and how will your body start to feel the warmth? When will the curtains let in natural light and start moving slowly themselves? Describing something you have yet to see is a bit hard, obviously, but @Powel has somehow managed to do that. His podcast is about all the mornings we have lived and all those we are yet to live. All of them. Without exception.

P.S. Cyberiada [sɪber’jada] is the name of a series of satirical-philosophical stories by Polish author Stanislaw Lem. The word "Cyberiadа" - which is the name of a woman - is mentioned in the entire series only once.

Soul Clap. Whenever I see those two words I can't resist the urge to click, listen or watch. "What are these guys cooking up now?" is my first thought, the second "of course they are". The creative, tirelessly inventive and downright dirty duo are celebrating the beginning of their new house music imprint House of EFUNK, (a name you've no doubt seen flying around as the title of their electrifying touring party series). The Boston boys are back from their cosmic travels and you will want to hear delights they have returned with. Treasure in the form of two tracks 'Jupiter Cush' and 'Natural Bliss', fortunately, we have the honour of premiering the B Side of the first Soul Clap EP of 2019 EFUNK01, the track is entitled 'Natural Bliss'. 

What we have here is a musical compound made up of buzzing particles of sonically stunning vocals, sounds of intergalactic laser warfare, warm piano chords, comforting funky percussion and muted basslines. 'Natural Bliss' will transport you back into the early days of Marshall Jefferson, before throwing you up through the stratosphere, where you will be caught for a moment in a cosmic jungle with echoes of the rhythms beneath. Paradoxically (in true Soul Clap fashion), the track incorporates futuristic yet retro elements of synthy splendour and unpolished rugged drums that only add more texture and layers to this New York house-flavoured instrumental. 

The artistic pair, experiment with the deeper darker side of sophisticated, electro-funk and deep house releasing similar music off the renowned Soul Clap Records a few years back. Further to this, they collaborated with Wolf + Lamb, Double Standards Records back in 2013 to create Crew Love, which is of course, was another successful idea made possible by the likes of Nick Monaco, PillowTalk, No Regular Play coming together to bring pure uplifting music to world. Adding House of EFUNK to the Soul Clap life story is certainly a wise move for the duo and lovers of soulful house music everywhere. Shout outs to Lee Curtiss for mixing down this sell-out EP he really has accentuated the signature Soul Clap freshness.

Soul Clap are the future of house music. This would be a bold statement but their ability to time travel with their satisfying and truly original production techniques is unrivalled. Authentically conveying their message of fun, love and freakiness through tracks like 'Natural Bliss', the boys firmly cement their brand into the history of music.
