so this recording is from the exact moment a song i made with Jillz called Open Your Eyes Debuted on one of the biggest radio stations in the country and they didnt mention my name once. i was really excited but i felt like my partner (who's in the recording - i was visiting him during this time) wasnt as excited and idk his energy was just really a downer it's like he was happy that my voice was on radio - i know he was also annoyed that they didnt mention my name but i felt like that wasnt the reason for his detached energy. anyway i tried to tweet them to tell them that im the person singing the whole song... i dont interact with Jillz anymore coz there was a lot of shady business happening after the song was completed and i felt used and this is the song that got him a publishing contract with Universal Music so you can imagine the bitterness i felt when they released the song with my name spelt as Whitney and not Witney. as it should be.. i tried for so long to fix it and they eventually fixed it in some places but it's still spelt wrong on several DPS... this song is about the betrayal i went thru in this relationship i was in at the beginning of 2019 and i was crying during the making of this song like literally we recorded it as i was breaking up with this person... i feel like Jillz betrayed me too... i be getting betrayed it's so fucked up coz im the most open, loyal, honest and dedicated person i know ... i just wanted to share this coz it's my life and i can do what i want.

this recording triggers a lot of conversations for me including the lack of respect for unknown/upcoming artists from big labels (esp if youre not signed to them it seems like if youre not signed they wont even bother to mention your name in bio of the song when they send it to radio), i also havent been given the ISRC code for the song despite contacting UMG directly so that i can get the royalties im owed... at this point im just grateful that i wrote that song and was able to express my feelings like that and the fact that my voice makes that song what it is is enough for me,, i dont wanna fight

Stay Alive is a psychedelic sonic anthem to celebrate presence, the journey of life. It's a reminder to breathe and take one step at a time when you feel low, uninspired and like the world is caving in on you. I wrote this song after nearly drowning myself and in that moment I realised how passionate I am about living a fulfilling life. This song feels like a message from my higher self telling me to Stay Alive coz there's so much more to uncover and so much to live for.

It's Monday evening (2019 somtym). Anxnymxus and I are at SABC recording this song. It's called 'cherry gardens'. We're almost done laying down all the vocals and the vibrations are so delicious that they attract two wanderers... we all listen and float together. We save the project and take a break.

*intermission*

We come back to record another song but I quickly realise that the song needs more conceptualising. Our session is almost over so we decide to listen to 'cherry gardens' one last time before we leave but after a few painful attempts to recover the song, we accept that the fact that the file is corrupted and we'd have to rerecord. Now this recording is from a WhatsApp chat with my sister. I sent her a vn of the rough draft so she could hear what we were up to. I reeeeeeally wish I recorded this on my phone's default recorder but these things happen. I wanted to share this with anyone who'd appreciate the energies here. This is a gem because even though the rerecording will sound similar and maybe even better, it will never sound the same again.

We rerecord on Friday.
