The Garden Wall began in 1996 by Peter Hennig as a departure project after leaving the NYC indie band The Volume. Influences have been wide and varied from many genres with an emphasis on improvisation. A self-titled cassette release of unaccompanied guitar improvisations found it's way into the hands of friends in 1996 and was later followed by psych-folk explorations on "June Triplett" in 1998. Recording resumed again in 2013 and has included a wider array of instrumentation after the completion of a home studio in his Maryland home.
