Intermezzo, transitioning from the preceeding deeply melancholic episodes of the Pandemic Suite to the "Motif of Fate", while changing the key and character totally.
In the beginning the brass section presents a muted, simple folkloric chant with a piano. This is followed by the "Motif of Fate" of the Pandemic Suite. It will appear couple of times later, but it is first time introduced here and will be looming like a shadow on the horizon. It is played by the trumpet and string orchestra: superficially a measured descent in half-tones, while the scaffold of sound and harmony climbs in quiet resolve. Together, they usher in a new key, where the journey of the Pandemic Suite will continue in the following episodes.
