WINTER ‘19-20 by Æ

@tunnelvisions1 return to their home label @Atomnation for a fourth fantastic release in the last three years. This six track excursion builds on the pair's warm, richly melodic and always hypnotic style with fantastically colourful results.

Tunnelvisions is Emiel van den Dungen and Raynor de Groot. Both artists keep busy with their own solo projects (Milio and Coloray respectively) but continue to find fascinating middle ground when they come together in the studio. 2020 saw them step out on Moscoman's Disco Halal and Solomun's Diynamic, while they have also been remixed to great effect with influential DJs like Dixon and Tale Of Us playing the results. Now, though, they are back on Atomnation with another superb collection of cuts.

The undulating 'Acid Neverland' opens up with its succulent and supple drums overlaid with heavenly chords and glowing pads. Coloray's vocals are then layered in to bring some drive and attitude to this most compelling of tracks. 'King Cobra' is a dubby delight. Its airy hi hats, bulbous bass notes and tripped out melodic motifs all sinking you into a trance.

There is more angst and energy to the malfunctioning melodies and steel-plated drums of 'Mirrored Identities' while 'Waiting For The Morning' is a perfect dreamscape. It's a super widescreen track with deft pads coming in and out of focus, glistening melodies reflecting light and pulsing drums locking you in. 'Private XS' flips the vibe with more drawn out and sinewy synths gurgling and bubbling away as they ride up and down the scale like a slow motion cosmic explosion. Last but not least, 'End of Time' has the most pop hooks and catchy riffs of the lot. They dart about the mix as smeared pads and crunchy, punchy drums encourage you to cut loose.

This is another masterfully cohesive collection of colourful dance floor cuts that take in pop, techno and synth music and skew them the unique lens of Tunnelvisions.

We discovered this song through an instagram story of good friend, Belgrade's famous @kristijanmolnar and got immediately engaged to the sound and the vocal. Following the thread we found the artist behind Buba @milos-bulajic from Montenegro and agreed on to release this gem the proper way.

Neo-progressive rock / jazz fusion band EAST was a collective of open minded and talented musicians in the late 70's and 80's. Although the iron curtain and the peculiar heritage of socialist era in Eastern Europe they were able to tour around the world, and also put timeless and special records on the table.

“Agymosas” means “Brainwash” simply: the lyrics from 1983 sounds valid about the effect and power of marketing, especially when we think of the meta period which knocks on our doors already.

BRYAN KESSLER - SISTERS & BROTHERS VOL. 4

Bryan Kessler (@bryankessler) has made a point of not toeing the line in terms of the sometimes mono-thematic world of electronic dance music. Hailing from Cologne, Kessler started his musical life as a lead singer in an indie band, before discovering the pleasures of the dancefloor for himself. Having released a number of superb tracks on Comeme, Numbers and Get Physical, he now drops a killer 5 tracker on hafendisko.

The new EP is also the fourth volume in the Sisters & Brothers series, curated by Sexy Lazer and Kasper Bjørke.

‘Such a Sweet Ability’ is a pure statement of Kessler’s philosophy with vocals and lyrics by Berlin based artist Claudio Campo-Garcia, - a spoken word vocal laying out his vision - underpinned by a throbbing, low slung techno groove.

‘No Go-Go’ also has a grimey, rock swing to its electronics, with a swung, jagged bassline and crisp, firing percussion. Kessler adds his unique vocals late in the track, heavily treated and moducalted for maximum effect.

‘Tender Me The Tenderness’ treads a similar vein - rough and ready electronics provide the backbone, with tripping, pounding drums maintaining the shape. This one is aimed squarely at the floor.

‘Don’t Be Dumb Pretend You’re Dumb’ employs heavy percussion and a deep, round kick for the dancers, before exploding into fizzing electronic busts of static - something like a carnival happening inside a broken television.

Last up is another exquisitely titled track - ‘Tell Your Friends They Should Better Stop Talking’ - which slows the pace a little but still brings the heat. Off-kilter pulses and bleeps balance out the driving rhythm, while an euphoric synth stab phases in and out across the track.

Newman returns home with four tasty dance floor grooves. There's a certain latin vibe to half of the EP. You just can't keep your hips from swaying the way they do. Eastern vibes also return to the EP with „Kiss Of The Seraph“ breaking down to ethnic wails. His sound continues to evolve while maintaining it's own recognisable identity.

Mobilee welcome back regular artist Rey&Kjavik for another cinematic new EP that shows
off his uniquely mystical sound.

This artist is based in Germany and runs his own label RKJVK. He continually evolves with each new EP
and has already impressed with two full lengths that were brilliantly broad and storytelling. Once again here
he serves up two scintillating trips to the stars that stylishly draw on disco, house, ambience and the
cosmos.

The epic 'Time' is an almost 10-minute adventure into brilliantly moody and futuristic house. A robot
vocoder muses on the track's title while cosmic ambiance and far gazing pads make for a truly intergalactic
atmosphere. The rubbery bassline and various subtle breakdowns all add tension to the trip and make this
a timeless journey stuffed with real feelings.

Next up, 'Yourself' is masterfully absorbing thanks to the deeply buried but rasping bass, the infectious little
claps and majestic comic synth sequences and sci-fi details. It's a slow burning track that really casts a
spell and when it drops the club is set to go crazy.

Exclusive Cowboy Rhythmbox - 6AM Cowboy (Cowboy Rhythmbox Deviation Variation)

British “outsider-electronic duo“ Cowboy Rhythmbox return to Erol Alkan's Phantasy Sound with a  none-existing musical approach up to date from the cowboys Nathan Gregory Wilkins and Richard X themselves. As Detroit producer Sharif Laffrey took on remix duties for CR's 6AM Nathan and Richard remixed the remix of the track, expressing their appreciation of Sharif's work. The result of the remix remix, simply called Deviation Variation, falls into the category creative remarkableness. A lush yet bouncey bass line is equipped with sharp reverbing chords and blurry synths while partly implemented filter hi-hat rides and mono-alternating vocal-snippets are swaying from left to right. The remix reaches musical exellence once the disorted and echoing chord sequence makes its appearance adding a warm vitalness to the wild west Detroit-shooting.
