"I felt compelled to make this mix during my mandatory hotel isolation period, depicting certain moods I was flowing in between; reflective, sensual, longing, hope... suspended in time. The tracks are very special to me and remind me mostly of missing loved ones. I really wanted to focus on speech and lyric - especially female vocals. The mix is actually a vessel for femine energy and some of what that represents to me. Snippets from the “100% Genuine” CD released on Rephlex records have been woven throughout the mix, a collection of real phone recordings from a dating agency."

@roza-terenzi aka. Katie Campbell, has escaped Berlin lockdown and is currently on the first leg of her NZ tour, starting with Beacon Festival in Auckland. 

She delivers us a pretty special mix for our 24th instalment in the series - a little more down-tempo and reminiscent of her iso-diaries while in NZ quarantine.

Guy Contact is the alias of Perth-based producer and rising star Callum Chute.  Specialising in his own contemporary brand of hardware-focused progressive house, Guy Contact has been hard at work refining his sound since his EP ‘Liminal Space’ dropped on Butter Sessions nearing the end of 2019. The result is a unique and unquestionably cohesive sound palette of pulsating grooves, trance-like overtones and blissful pads - all wrapped up and raring to energise any dancefloor. Following a run of stand out 12” EPs on the likes of Coymix Ltd, Haws Music and Craigie Knowes, Guy Contact is also plotting a follow up release on Butter Sessions due by the end of the year. With quality output to boot in 2021, Guy Contact is commanding the attention of local and global audiences - evidenced also by recent and inspiring contributions to both esteemed Amsterdam based Oddysee mix series and home grown stalwart series Melbourne Deepcast. Taking over Tapes #83 is Hybrid Man, the electronic music project of Naarm-based duo Julien Huynh and Will Holden. Formed in late 2018, the pair’s live set suspends time - drawing you in deep for a moment of keen introspection before erupting into euphoric electronica. 
Keenly, the imaginative world induced nods at dance music past and present, where it fuses ambient soundscapes with IDM, 90s trance, dubbed-out house, techno and beyond for an all-immersive and timeless experience. 

 At the forefront of Hybrid Man’s union is a mutual penchant for hardware-based production. This passion sees the duo side-by-side maneuvering their equipment with the precision of surgeons, championing left-field sonic artifacts, environmental recordings and manually-played improvisatory instrumentation. A patchwork of influences; Hybrid Man have trailblazed the contemporary downtempo meets techno movement in Naarm, peppering their sound to technical finesse with dub-style mixing and effects.

An all-star selector who builds sets from the underground up, Chaz is a deep digger, classy collector and all-round purveyor of rare finds and classic tracks from the bygone eras of house, techno, trance, electro and iterations in-between. Having played host to international artists including Kabuto and Mark/Klon Dump under the Syrup Records banner, Chaz is well acquainted with throwing a damn good party. In more recent times, Techworld (run alongside @sandpit_alias) has risen like a technicolour phoenix from the ashes of lockdown to cult-like status. As the scene’s taste for faster tempos grows and accelerates, Techworld offers monthly reprieve from the chaos by taking us back to basics. Good records, long sets, a rotating roster of the country’s finest DJs and a custom ENM Research mixer coalesce (with a few blue drinks) once a month at miscellanea to give us 18 hours of unadulterated afterhours hedonism. Chaz joined me live in the PBS studio for Passing Notes episode 187, but here we are lucky to hear a 1 hour guest mix recorded live at Techworld.

In Hour 2 we hand over to Virginia the talented DJ, singer, songwriter and producer who has been deeply involved in electronic music for over a decade. Growing up in Munich, the energetic and dedicated artist quickly found her feet in music. Having relocated to Berlin she’s been a Panorama Bar resident since 2012. Her DJ sets fuse warm analog house and electro of the 80s and 90s with off-kilter swinging grooves, layered with spontaneous live vocals that add a unique third dimension. 
She released her first solo production, the Loch & Hill EP, on Ostgut Ton in 2013, followed by her My Fantasy EP and her debut LP, Fierce For The Night, in May 2016, which was co-produced by Dexter, Martyn and Steffi. She recently did a remix for Steve Bug & Langenberg and said this about her mix;
"I choose some records that I really enjoy at the moment. It is a selection of broken & syncopated tracks who, to me, create an atmospheric and warm soundtrack for cold days ahead."

In recent times, Space Cadets have taken the scene by storm. Based in Leeds, UK, the two are quickly becoming synonymous with a modern and exciting tech/trancey style of production. Both are also residents/co-run the party/mix series @on-rotation-music

Marlon (@liseneuk) & Adam (@adampits) have pioneered a new and unique sound, inspired by elements of 90's and early 2000's tech/trance/prog and electronica but with their own signature touches and embedded with a distinctly UK vibe. With respective releases on Planet Euphorique, Banoffee Pies, X-Kalay & Holding Hands, not only are both incredibly talented producers in their own right, but this mix is proof that their ability to select and compile a compelling set is just as impressive. 

This mix is what we all need after a long 2020.
