Known for his work fronting the enigmatic rock band Pedro the Lion, David Bazan’s emotionally charged narratives, eye for telling detail, and mournful voice have more in common with J.D. Salinger’s “Nine Stories” or Flannery O’Connor’s “Wise Blood” than with the usual lyrical slant of popular music. Bazan is a gifted storyteller, weaving parables of spiritual conflict, suburban ennui, and personal surrender into magnetic, well-crafted songs.

His debut solo full-length album, Curse Your Branches (out now on Barsuk), is a masterwork by a modern American poet at the height of his powers. Paste Magazine called him one of the “100 Best Living Songwriters”. This record is the deepest and most explicit exploration of his struggles with faith and a meditation on all things passed between the generations.

TAUK has been painting with sound for nearly a decade now, pushing boundaries and reinventing themselves every chance they get. Founded by Dolan, Jalbert, and Carter, who began playing together as middle schoolers on Long Island, the band landed on its present incarnation in 2012, when college pal Teel joined full time.

Since then, the quartet has gone on to tour with the likes of Umphrey’s McGee, Widespread Panic, and Lettuce, landed festival slots everywhere from Bonnaroo to Electric Forest, racked up millions of streams across platforms, and garnered extensive critical praise with a series of widely lauded studio and live albums. The Washington Post hailed the band’s music as “a hard-charging, often melodic fusion that—thanks to a penchant for improv—offers limitless possibilities,” while Keyboard Magazine declared that their sound “doesn’t adhere to a single genre but, instead, creates its own,” and Relix dubbed them “an incredibly impressive ensemble of talent.”

Mike McDonald (a.k.a wiZard) is a genre-blending producer and guitarist from Dallas, TX. His unique combination of glitchy hip-hop beats, funky basslines, and live guitar has earned him a loyal regional following that is growing by the day. When asked about why his sound has won over audiences, McDonald replies “I think it’s appealing to people because it not only has that bumping synth-driven glitch-hop beat, but it also has that guitar element, and I think that people are still really drawn to the sound of a sailing guitar lead.”

A guitarist since grade school, McDonald grew up playing in jazz combos, funk bands, and rock groups; but his real passion was production. He built a small studio in a garage and began recording local bands and toying around with synthesizers and drum machines. wiZard migrated into electronic music after realizing it was the perfect medium for him to explore his wide array of influences and integrate them into a sound that was truly his.

Since stepping on the scene little more than a year ago, wiZard has shared the stage with Michal Menert, Gramatik, Big Gigantic, Archnemesis Two Fresh, GriZ, Murph (from STS9), Signal Path, SuperVision, Alex B, Emancipator, The Polish Ambassador, Jay Fresh, Bass Science, Adventure Club, and Zeds Dead. wiZard is currently at work on his debut EP, titled “Keep Calm and Carry a Wand.”
