Manchester native Loz Goddard has been crafting high quality releases since 2015, garnering early support from the likes of Mr. Scruff, Mike Huckaby, Move D and Session Victim. The ever-eclectic producer has since partnered up with esteemed labels such as Seb Wildblood’s Church imprint and deep-house institution - Quintessentially, Loz has since reinvented his sound with an experimental edge and a penchant for live instrumentation. It’s Goddard’s ability to explore a wide range of genres and tempos whilst maintaining an authentically personal sound that is particularly special. Whether it’s the slow ambient motions inspired by the likes of Boards of Canada or the rattling breakbeat workouts imbued with the spirit of the nineties U.K underground, this northern powerhouse delivers a deeply immersive sound design to be utilised in the club and for home listening. His latest work has been manifested in the form of the ‘Balloon Tree Road’, an LP set for release on Oath.

PREMIERE : Loz Goddard - When Time Slows It Feels Weird

Mexico City resident La Guardia De La Luz is back on Hell Yeah with a new three-track EP, The Magnetic Field, a perfect follow-up from his Awakenings EP back in late 2021. 

This Balearic-not-Balearic artist has been crafting his seductive sounds for many years. From lush deep house to stoner dub via psychedelic beats, he can do it all with a majestic sense of storytelling. This time out he has his sights set firmly on the dance floor as he mixes up breakbeat, reggae and disco. 

'Kingston Technologies' has an irresistibly wiggling dub rhythm. Dusty breakbeats and digi-synths dance around one another as warm chords and jah-inspired vocals drift up top. It's a super fresh tune that sounds like nothing else out there. 

The epic ten-minute workout that is 'Planetary' builds on deep-cut house drums with funky bass playing and louche percussion. It's an early evening classic that will see any floor slowly fill up as people shake their booty to the loose rhythm and get lost in the soulful melodies that grow ever more cosmic. 

Finally, the title track is another nearly 10-minute masterpiece with silky star-gazing arps circling up through the mix over lazy breaks. It's an expansive track with a widescreen design that has you gazing off to the distance and lost in a loved-up deep disco reverie. 

These are three inventive tunes that take you to another world.

La Guardia de la Luz - Planetary

Tee Mango, aka Tom Mangan, drops three unique house jams, featuring his own vocals on a cpl. My pick of the pack is the title track that belies its name, going for a deep, smooth, key-laden house sound. Nice stuff. Coming on Paris-based label Ano Ano.

Passarani - Tribalonios

After numerous successful records on Ron Trent's "Future Vision" label, Volcov's "Neroli", DeepArtsound, Perpetual Rhythms, Osunlade's "Yoruba", and many others - "About U" is Trinidadian Deep's first release for Croatian label Burek.

Born and raised on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, today a place this producer calls "home" is found on various locations scattered all over the globe and a variety of influences is what is immediately evident by rich sounds and textures engraved onto this piece of vinyl.

A side, "I Want" is the most laid-back moment, in lack of a better term. Warm-sounding tribal percussions supporting the interaction of deep chords and wonderfully lush synths running thought the whole track only to get enriched with a beautiful piano line in the 2nd half. If there is track fitting to represent the sunset, that transition from day to night moment - "I Would" is the one.

B1 "Ghost" is the track on the record with the most forward-momentum. Deep tribal rhythms and lush synth lines are a sort-of a leitmotif on this record and are present here as well, with an occasional vocal snippet that only deepens the magic.

B2 "Abourisha" makes good use of those leitmotifs in a similarly effective but overall quite different manner. Broken rhythm gives it a slightly different energy, making it an ideal track for those 5 am moments when a track like this marks the night.

‘Family Horror X Good Times’ is an extensive 15 tracks compilation, where the label reflects on an intense and impassioned decade. We asked close friends and long time idols to play their part to the full to complete the third edition of the label’s Family Horror compilation series. The outcome is a clear snapshot of the musical inclinations of the three label founders, Sevensol & Map.ache (aka Manamana) and Bender, encapsulating an idiosyncratic, modern house sound that demands an emotional response. 
The compilation comes rounded off by a booklet of photographs from Ria aka Lux which just like the music captures some of the beautiful ‘Good Times’ from this very special period, this time on paper.

‘Clear View’ fluffs the pillows further lowering you deeper into calming rhythms and reverb-soaked chord progressions. A vocal sample comes and goes throughout the entirety, offering the chance to exhale deeply between segments.
