space•lab’s fourth EP comes from in-form Rambal Cochet and on Galatians Syndrome EP, he’s expertly crafted four spacey groovers which are primed for the dancefloor. On each track, enchanting atmospherics and hypnotic soundscapes intertwine with rolling basslines as crispy drums punch through layers of acid and melody. An essential for fans of prog trance.

Escaping was a necessity; living in a concrete jungle made her feel trapped, at times as though she were fighting for breath. Whether it was the peace of the countryside or the paradisiacal surroundings of the beach, these places gave her a sense of renewal, refreshing her mind and her senses. This would only last as long as the trips did, it was a sad truth that the rejuvenation would soon dissipate as she stepped back into the rat race. 

As is their annual tradition, in December Leipzig's R.A.N.D. Muzik Recordings marked the end of another year with a VA compilation featuring music from fresh faces and old friends. Swirling around the sounds central to the label - breaks, house, electro and techno - the four-track EP calls on the talents of R.A.N.D regular Tim Schlockermann and new blood Adam Strömstedt, Barney In The Tunnel and Olsvangèr.

"Truckupidööm is rolling on basalt stones with an hypnotic inertia of a sensual mileage. The pleasures of trembling releases from her body plastic and more plastic, spring and another spring, metal and another metal. She sheds the industry’s father from herself and turns to mother earth, to the sand hall, to the whistles of camels, to the reddish threshold where sunrises are a burning fire, and silence is an azure eternity."

Individually Tel Aviv-based producers Olsvanger and MYKI have been firing out expertly crafted productions that connect the dots between their love of progressive trance and pumping classic house. It's no surprise that when they come together under the guise of Babylon X, the output is something to marvel at, and that goes for Truckupidööm,  the project's first full EP. Dropping via their own co-run label, Tofistock, the five tracks fuse the pair's love for old school house, trance, jazz and Mediterranean Arabic sounds, culminating in a batch of  "spooky desert rollers".

Maruwa bows at the altar of ‘90s prog house and IDM. Classically trained as a pianist, the St. Petersburg born Frankfurt based artist has made it her mission to join the dots between big room rave and a decidedly off-planet approach to melody. Now, making a debut for X-Kalay, that journey continues…

‘Liquid Night’ genuinely sounds like something you might have heard during Love Parade’s golden era. Meshing noirish sci-fi atmosphere with trance synths and EBM flex, the shadowy territory it occupies also carries through to A2’s ‘Midnight Caller’. That said, the followup cut evokes an essence of ‘90s dancefloor utopia, balancing euphoric melodrama with tough, propulsive NRG.

Taking inspiration from mid-‘90s acid prog, ‘Tricky Question’ summons the divine wide-eyed and sublime – less urgent, but still imbued with that '90s halcyon daze. Rudolf C then rounds things off with a fathoms-deep remix. Ushering ’Tricky Question’ into that techy space he navigates so well, the Salt Mines co-founder provides his own spin without losing the essence of the original.

Navigating mystic, offbeat zones, Contact sets out his stall from the start. ‘Out of My Head (Into My Body)’ is as pristine as it is expansive, inducing trance states as trippy flourishes oscillate over driving rhythm in impeccable lysergic style. Then, with another dose of melt-on-the-mind groove, a radiant bliss-out arrives in the beautifully buoyant flex of ‘Sacred Mist’.
