Okay, you’re listening to the 23rd edition of Kompakt’s annual compilation series TOTAL… hold on… 23??? It’s impossible to look at this number without thinking of William S. Burrough’s Captain Clark anecdote, the Illuminatus trilogy and the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu. But don’t you worry, we’re not giving in to eikositriophobia. We’re enlightened folks, after all.

The lively dance begins solemnly with KOLLMORGEN’s deep-subtle minimal gem “Muddy”. Making her debut is the wonderful ARGIA with the somewhat misleading title ‘No Concept’ – the Madrid native indeed has a very precise plan. Also, our number one hit guarantor, JÜRGEN PAAPE, is represented here with his brand-new super hit ‘Alone In Italy’. His colleague MICHAEL MAYER is also in top disco spirits with ‘Talmi’. One of the secret weapons of the current season comes from STEPHAN BARNEM & FUTURISTANT. ‘Don’t Cry’ is a passionate New Wave belter for eternity. JÖRG BURGER proclaims a new, trippy genre: Cinematic Dance, before C.A.R. & PATRICE BÄUMEL slowly raise the energy level in the ‘Four Down’ Club Mix. JOHN TEJADA then cruises calmly at the desired cruising altitude while the cabin crew serves refreshments. ‘Duration’ by BARNT/MAYER pays tribute to an artist formerly known as Prince with grand rave romanticism, and about REX THE DOG’s summer smash hit ‘Change This Pain For Ecstasy’, there’s really nothing more to say. The Thuringian force of nature ROBAG WRUHME must not be missing here, of course. ‘Fire’ once again shows him in top form, with one of the dirtiest basslines in techno history. Joining us from London is HARDT ANTOINE, who spells u n d e r s t a t e m e n t with ‘All We See’. And finally, REINHARD VOIGT feat Eduard Weber bring it all together – live from the grand Comedy Barn of folk music. Cheers!

With an excellent catalogue of releases on labels such as Get Physical, My Favorite Robot, Sincopat, and recently with the huge success of Runner on Polymath and Horse on Atlant, Darlyn Vlys has become a sought after artist on the rise. For his EP on Roam, Darlyn Vlys offers two new original works. The title track - Bladed - sets the mood with stylish vocals and guitar stabs that hit all the right places. Neo Noir brings the tempo up while keeping the lush soundscape found throughout the EP.  Backing up the originals are two incredible and diverse remixes by Kiwi and Pardon Moi. Kiwi moves Neo Noir in a smooth dreamy direction while Pardon Moi remakes Bladed into full on 80s Italo anthem.

Los Angeles T.F. - Magical Body (Kendal Remix)

The inimitable Secret Fusion label serves up more left of center electronic music in October, this time from the innovative Sobek, with vital remixes from Musumeci, Bawrut and SouveQ. For the last three years, Budapest based artist Sobek has been crafting a unique take on house and techno. Whether it be deconstructing glossy, polished originals with his unrivalled remixing talent, or days spent in the studio creating innovative and thought provoking original music across many sub genres, his sound has no boundaries. Monaberry, Chapter 24, TAU and Moblack have all put out his music and as well as having support from DJs like Black Coffee and Pete Tong, he also runs his own influential party series in his home city. Things kick off in fine fashion with ‘Geiling Agent,’ a superb seven-minute cosmic house trip. It is built on broken kicks and with lush, far sighted arps bringing a feeling of real expansiveness. The thrilling ‘Mr Vibe’ is one to lock you in a trance with its bright, sustained chords and rolling drums. Haunting vocals slowly drift into ear shot to keep you locked as the melodies take over. First to remix ‘Geiling Agent’ is Musumeci, a project by Mauro Di Martino, a Sicilian DJ and producer since the late 80s with releases on Innervisions and Connaisseur Recordings. There is plenty of class and retro-future style in his stomping, synth laden disco rework, which is full of colour and energy. Madrid based Bawrut, who has released on Life And Death this year and had high level DJ support, then brings a wide range of influences to his remix of ‘Mr Vibe’. It is a gorgeous track with punchy, slick deep techno drums and soulful chords that bring warmth and futurism. Secret Fusion label manager SouveQ is a long standing DJ and producer who has a string of successful collaborative projects under his belt and mixes up nu-wave, disco and techno. Here he goes for a drilling beat and celestial chords that are layered up in seductive ways with plenty of sci-fi details.

Ferrari - Jungle Boogie EP

Earlier this year we were happy to release Ferrari’s first ever track on AEON; a crafty remix of Alex Niggemann’s ‘Rise of the Machines’. Towards the end of November, the Italian producer’s ‘Jungle Boogie’ EP will brighten up the darker months of the year. Ferrari wrote the record during Italy’s strict lockdown evenings and first days of easing the restrictive measures, which created a sound of both frenzy and relieve.
The record’s title track creates expectations, which it meets, but not in the exact way you expected it. ‘Jungle Boogie’ starts with native percussion rhythms, but swiftly evolves into a fever dream with altered bird sounds that create an extraterrestrial impression. While female vocals are trying to get to you, you get lost more and more in the acid jungle Ferrari created. While the animals celebrate the temporary absence of mankind. 
‘Trancektor’ immediately spirals down towards even deeper parts of your unconscious. This time, however, the world you find yourself in feels more like an 80s arcade game. Circling, Italo disco-inspired synths swirl around you as the spatial sounding beat runs on.
The third track on the EP, ‘Tellurico’, is an uplifting tune with forceful keys that push you forward. The choir hypnotises this song’s listeners all the way to the end. 
The closing track of the ‘Jungle Boogie’ EP brings you into calmer waters, allowing you to recover a bit from your little journey. However, ‘Freakin’’ intensifies as it goes forward elevating you one last time.
AEON invited Whitesquare - well known from his releases on Dj Tennis infamous „Life & Death“ - to rework ‘Jungle Boogie’s title track. He silenced the birds, but the trippiness of the track stays, while some new tropical animals enter the stage.
This storytelling EP of five tracks shows some excellent curatorship of the Berlin-based label.

Innocence, consciousness, warnings... Colossio crash - lands onto Duro with his first full EP for the label. It’s about time; a fellow Mexican alchemist and kindred spirit, Colossio’s dark disco melting pot and strong political energy has bubbled to the same beat as label imprint since the very beginning. Previously spotted on the label remixing Theus Mago and Local Suicide in 2019, he’s now back with three formidable slabs of tightly - sprung timelessness and a remix from Dominik Marz.
Each cut more foreboding than the last, ‘Inocência’ lives up to its name as the most playful cut of the collection. A gently cascading arpeggio takes the lead as classic Yello-style pitched vocals add fun and human warmth to the mix. Dark but not devilishly so, it lures you into Colossio’s world, setting you up for the more up-tempo, late night synth-heavy twist from Dominik Marz.
