The Beat Poet is dropping 4 cuts of lyrical patterns and mad wizardry on
JenZi's 'From The Vaults' label. Following Sneaker's EP's of 'Meet The Heat' and
'Rhythm Composer', we have here another exercise in drum programming
and syncopated rhythms. Groove and acid. Drama, culmination and relief.
'Beat Goes On' is an 808+303 jam with long-term collaborator and solder-king
Jacob Korn. Sneaker gave the message a voice - with a classic acappella
from the Orbit.
Exploiting the classic Dancemania drum machine, 'Dr. Rhythm' dazzles you
with a doubletime kick, triplet toms, tropical cuíca screams and scratches -
and when you just begin to find yourself again, it slaps your red cheeks with
more whipping snares.
'Wild Pitch' is again an 808+303 jam – this time with Dresden's old school
legend DJ Smiley. The track pays tribute to and re-interprets DJ Pierre's Wild
Pitch sound from NYC's Strictly Rhythm period.
The closing track 'Feedback' switches TEE-styled Latin rhythm box variations
while layering a feedback progression ranging from subwoofer lo's to ear
piercing hi's. Flip it over! Feed it back again!

This material evokes the spirit of mellow 90s, acid-era, Psychic TV-ish, lucid dreaminess. Soothing, monotonous, yet disrupted by a feast of kicks reminiscent of Gary Numan drum parties. This mini LP is an explicit message from Lustpoderosa's sonic continuum. These 7 tracks show the deep connection of Marlene Starks' work as a writer and an artist to her role as mother and DJ in times when there is an urgent need to dismantle the patriarchy in our society and rave culture.
Marlene Stark is telling us much more than a great musical story with the symbolic title “Hyäne”. Marlene wants to direct our attention to a reviled creature while she reflects on its literary and symbolic meanings. Although hyenas live in a matriarchal society, its transmutation can be perceived as the ongoing struggle of the non-male body in an androcentric world view.
Marlene Starks reinterprets the figure of the hyena in a very poetic, self-ironical and honest way, as shown in the tracks ‘Hungry As a Hunter’, 'Hyäne’ and ‘Language Of Old Woman’. It's a neo-ceremonial call to rethink established structures without missing out the turbulent landscape of today's politics.
From early trip-hop to post-rave elements, Stark combines her sonic adventures with an impressively nonchalant and colloquial vocabulary. Her voice, as well as the voice of guest singer Stefanie Mader, achieves a remarkable vocal structure that goes beyond the mainstream.
This is the contemporary body music for the next generation.

Marlene Stark is a DJ, producer, author, artist and mother. She is a regular at the @Sameheads Club Berlin where she hosts her party called 'Superposition'.
In 2019, Marlene published her debut novel "M" with co-author Anna Gien at Matthes and Seitz. The book talks about the systematic oppression of women in capitalism and in the art scene while talking about Berlin, its music scene, djing, drugs, sexuality and Male Gaze.
Marlene's debut album 'Hyäne' is a continuation of her work. It’s a thoughtfully influenced and neo-ceremonial music that aspires to evoke body trance and the awakening of hysteria. Marlene Stark floods the dancefloor with rhythmic body music that is dark, courageous and vocal in a political and in a poetic way. The tracks are influenced by early Breakbeat, Downtempo, Trance and Acid, with hints of Trip Hop, Tribal, Psychedelic and Krautrock.

« I wrote this track during french pandemic situation, in April 2020. I was wondering how far political situation will be stay stable in our country, with lies contest from Veran and Phillipe. Keeping in mind the « ritual » and « cosmic » adjectives often associated with his music, he built a mystical artifact fallen from the skies, quite litterally indeed. « Black Magic Rituals » is a wizzard's book full of smart spells to open the space and time continuum. Whether it is made of shimmering stratospheric soundscapes or built in between constellations of the inner world, A Strange Wedding goes beyond his own forms to explore half-step industrial leftfield dub as well as mental-driven deep techno in the style of italian masters. Oscillating from far distances to intimate odes to infinity, this crystal maze of sharp music stands as a usefull toolbox for total mind liberation, and marks a step even forward into's A Strange Wedding sonic journey.
