03 Rigopolar - Surrended

The cosmic-pop french producer Sofian Rouge comes back a few month after the release of his "Floating" mini-album with this remix EP on Global Warming Records. First, one of our favorite italian dj and producer Fabrizio Mammarella (head of Slow Motion Records and of mysterious disco-influenced electronic projects as Telespacio or Black Spuma) gave us a killer slow and dark version of « Starglazer », shaped for cold nights, obscure sets and sweaty clubs. Same track choice to remix for JMII, spanish producer discovered on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs crew. He brings us to his own universe with deep synths and analog house with this remix that sounds like a soundtrack to space-travel. And as bonus we have a dub version of Cylene 8 by Sofian himself.

Sofian Rouge - Starglazer (Fabrizio Mammarella Remix)

Last month we made a mix for our friends and great tastemakers over at Ransom Note. Well the label's next EP is out very soon, so it made sense to premiere one of the tracks, plus the record instantly caught our attention ! The EP is a four tracker by London-based producer @hereticuk, including a remix from Marlon Hoffstadt. After releasing music on various imprints such as Relish, Days of Being Wild, Nein and My Favourite Robot, Clerkin shows how versatile he can be as a producer here, delivering his most atmospheric and well crafted work. Dope !

Old time friend of the label and major artist of the downtempo scene of the South of France, Fred Berthet is signing Global Warming latest release. Much respected for his works as DJ Steef, Copyshop or Troublemakers (with DJ Oil & Arnaud Taillefer), he delivered us two downtempo acid jams, filled with sexual tension, seeping walls and slow orgy. It also features remixes from our all-time favorites Italian balearic band, Mushrooms Project, who sends us back a superb organic and solar vision or the original track and on the opposite, Global Warming’s founder Malcolm (@mmaallccoollmm), signing a bestial and deliciously obscure cover. Malcolm Mitchell’s Global Warming Records is a self-proclaimed outlet for “discoholics” and multi-cultural geeks. The three projects they’ve released are a collection of songs emanating a cosmic, often tribal, synth heavy analog disco sound. The latest release from Marseille based producer Fred Berthet (aka. DJ STEEF), an old time friend of the label and major artist of the downtempo scene in the South of France, fits a similar mold. The EP, similar to its artwork, is filled with a slow, sexual tension heightened by slow, driving rhythms and hypnotic acid bass lines.

Included in the EP is a remix from Italian balearic duo, Mushrooms Project (Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano), who have crafted a superbly organic and deeply drugged out mid tempo burner that seems to call on numerous Ibiza sunrises for inspiration. Freaky, mesmerizing synth work take the listener on a trip to acid islands where steady bass permeates through thick fog over glistening percussive sequences. Its driving rhythms make the track feel faster than it is. This is a much appreciated form of trickery in down-tempo productions. Slow burners that make you dance hard are not easy to make.

The EP, and 100 limited edition copies of the naughty cover art illustrated by Ben Hubbard and printed on 420 x 594 mm poster, 250g heavy matte paper is available to purchase via GWR’s Bandcamp page. Blindetonation hits double figures with a suitably notable new EP from Aurum Miles. Pardon Moi, Il Est Vilaine and Thomass Jackson all serve up sizzling remixes to complete this interesting package. 

Miles hails from Lithuania and has grown up around shoegaze, rock and British indie, and was later touched by electronic sounds. A keys, drums and guitar player who mixes up all these influences with narcotic weirdness, he has released on this label before and always impresses. 

The excellently elastic ‘Few Feets’ is a sleazy, low slung machine made disco jam with skewed synths, punk hits and dirty bass. Exotic vocals and dark spoken words flesh out the wonky groove and the whole thing is hugely intoxicating. ‘Easy Come Easy Go’ is a menacing number with more filthy bass guitar riffs that snake along an urban sounding landscape. More dehumanised vocals bring an edgy feel and cosmic synths serve to trip you out. Last original ‘Mojo’ completes this brilliant disco freak show with off kilter synths and guttural guitar riffs that add up to dark cosmic excellence. 

First to remix is Berlin Based New Wave Duo Pardon Moi aka James Brook and Thomas Freudenthal. They flip ‘Few Feets’ into a surging track with shooting synths that reach to the skies. It’s a spine tingling cut with plenty of intergalactic energy.  Then come the duo of Il Est Vilaine, who make twisted electronic music and get their machines dancing on labels like Dialect. Their take on ‘Easy Come Easy Go’ is libidinous and dripping with a moody tension. Propped up by rugged bass and coloured with naughty chords, it’s a psyched-out and vital version.  Lastly, label regular and esteemed modern disco man Thomass Jackson works ‘Mojo’ in to a characterfully chugging, flipped out number with scale-riding melodies and percolating bass that takes you on a real trip. 

This is an inventive package of perfectly macho dark disco.

Hey fellas, almost 3 years after the last Global Warming Edits, we're back with 2 dancefloor burners. First, the ultimate camping dj peak time tune "La Macarena", goes deep and satanic with a dark dub edit from the parisian mate @beigebeige. And then the superb hindu electronic curiosity "Greatest Names That Lives", sung by Lata Ramasar and produced and recorded by her father the incredible Kissoon Ramasar goes into a climax breakbeat tune edited by our hypno-techno producer friend from Pisa, @lorenzo-magnozzi. Hope it gets your local dancefloor into a heater or just make you have a good time.

Olimpiada is a label that specialises in groove heavy slow motion big sounding dance tracks who last year released. Vlora Sun by Thomas Fruedenthal. Saka's latest track fits perfectly with the Tirana by way of Brighton outfit. Remix duties are covered by Tulioxi the Italian Stallion responsible for hits on Shara and Night Noise.
The result is a dream laden track full of live instrumentation, jazzy stabs and an irresistible groove accompanied by a gorgeous set of analogue sounds, guitar noises and a smooth as you like drum machine.
As winter warmers go, this one absolutely smells of the summertime. You can almost feel the breeze on your face as you hit play.

Lumière Noire’s 30th release, the Esta Noche EP, brings together Italian-born, Mexico-based artist Rodion, a classically trained pianist known for his productions on Gomma, Eskimo and Roccodis co among others and Chilean artist Alejandro Paz of Coméme and Huntleys & Palmers fame, who is also a classically trained musician. The two artists met in Ciudad de México and quickly bonded over their similar backgrounds in classical music and their shared passion for harmony as well as a love for romantic music, no doubt due to the “latin roots” uniting Italy and Latin America.

The Esta Noche EP features three songs which are much more than mere tracks, with a distinctive Latinx feel and unapologetic new wave influences, accompanied by a phenomenal remix by the brilliant Fabrizio Mammarella from Italy.

Opening the EP with a nocturnal field recording shrouding the track in a dark haze, Esta Noche features an understated bassline with an analog feel, catchy stabs and a dance-inducing rhythmic section. As the song develops and it soon becomes evident that its new wave indebted mise en scène and dramatic arrangements set it apart from run of the mill productions.

Featuring the man behind EMET Records, a known purveyor of outstanding remixes, Esta Noche’s remix by Fabrizio Mammarella is an absolute belter, clocking at 110 BPM. With FM synths, pitched samples, elegant pads, melodic squeals, and a heavy, hard-hitting arpeggiated bassline, the spirit of late 80s EBM reigns supreme in this rugged and ruthless chugger, hypnotic and almost disorienting in its repetition. This remix is a reminder that you don’t need high tempos to yield maximal results on the dancefloor.

At 101 BPM, Una Vez Mas is a plodding anthem standing out with its gorgeous chord progressions, reminiscent of Shep Pettibone's cult remix for Depeche Mode. Full of feeling and emotion this is not a sleepy downtempo affair but rather a slice of heartfelt and yearning Latinx crooning with a proper verse, chorus and breakdown structure. Perfectly fit for darkly lit dancefloors.

Closing the EP, Dime Que No is a different kind of Spanish-language new wave-influenced number, with plenty of feels. On one hand, melodic elements including an analog bass synth, pad chords, and subtle stabs support the tune's heartfelt vocals, and on the other, dissonant percussive and melodic elements act as a counterpoint. The way these different elements coalesce gives a feeling to the song that is both melancholic and psychedelic, with both producers letting sensitivity and a certain kind of fragility slip through the cracks on this haunting closer.
