Nourrie à l’underground lyonnais, Submarine FM a construit son univers à la croisée de la bass music, de la techno et de l’ambient. Ses influences et son univers singulier sont à apprécier dans son deuxième album «Waterbending» paru chez Slab Note. Elle multiplie les performances live, son domaine de prédilection, de Lyon à Paris ou Londres. 

Des basses hypnotiques et des mélodies subtiles de synthés modulaires : l’expérience Submarine FM est psychédélique et effrénée. En DJ set, ses mixes mélangent ukg breakbeats technoïdes et guilty pleasures.

“One song every two weeks for one year” (from November 1, 2023, to November 6, 2024, to be more precise)”, that’s what skilled and eclectic French producer Julien Porhel aka Blutch intends with his bold “Escaped Songs” series. Expect everything: From Dubstep to Breakbeats, from Deep House to Leftfield, from Electronica to Tough-To-Pigeonhole stuff, seasoned with shards of Italo Disco, Techno, IDM & whatnot, the mood of the moment is his guide, no rules are holding the flow of his creativity and the result is a wide-ranging joyride through many of his influences. With dance-floor fillers and introspective trippy cuts, Julien definitely pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions with his highly well-tailored sonority.

The track we hand-picked to premiere is a true ode to synthesizers: “Deléon” opens the third volume of Blutch’s saga and heralds the temperament of the EP – the most atmospheric of the series so far. (A plethora of) arpeggios everywhere set the tone and the always-present emotion of his compositions reaches another level with the tons of beautiful cosmic synth leads spread throughout the theme.

Balancing tribal electronica, angular wave and powerful chants, ‘ICCHĀ’ is a frenzied sonic fusion between Belgium and Bangladesh 
The Belgian duo, comprising musician Micha Volders and visual artist Miet Warlop, presents their debut album titled ‘ICCHĀ’. Stemming from their monumental performance ‘Chant For Hope’ (2023), which showcased native artists from Dhaka, ‘ICCHĀ’ revolves around the musical cadence and rich heritage of the Bengali language.
A powerful and uncompromising journey, ‘ICCHĀ’ offers a captivating soundworld with angular drumming and vocals that oscillate in mantra-like repetitions. The album features the performances of slam poet Shayer Noor, the energetic Muhammad Shanto, and the Chittagonian-spirited Tanny Das Gupta as protagonists, navigating the vibrant frenzy of Dhaka. Their contributions were carefully curated into a cohesive album that retains the inherent structure and heart of the original performance, ‘Chant For Hope.’”
The pulsating debut single, ‘OK GO - ঠিক আছে যাও’, highlights the mantra-like shouts of artist Shayer Noor. The contrast between the deep, rumbling Bodhran drum and the airy backing vocals, repeating the same word, lends it a monumental and standout character."

Since bursting onto the scene three years ago Maroki has shaped out an emotionally-charged sound that comfortably wraps around any number of club styles. Even by his swooning, introspective standards, his new release on Ano Ano takes this idea further with guest vocalist Maeve rounding out some of his most poignant productions to date. 

2021 was a tricky time to gain a foothold in club music, but Maroki’s music transcended the limitations of dance music without dancefloors thanks to his melodic strong suit, drawn from a background in classical piano and soundtrack composition. A run of acclaimed releases on labels like E-Beamz, Lost Palms and Flippen Bits cemented his arrival as he elegantly moved between light-footed breakbeat, dexterous 2-step and artfully swung house.

Through The Tooth follows a logical path from his previous appearance on Ano Ano - the 2023 EP Plastic Brain, thanks to Maroki’s innate instinct for the low-end sound craft of UK sound system music and the harmonic sensibility he applies to every aspect of his sound. If these six new tracks feel more inwardly focused than, say, his drop on Lobster Theremin, it’s because they were made through the surreal isolation of lockdown.

The presence of rising icon Maeve [3] on ‘Still Burning’ and ‘Bad Day In Bonus Town’ celebrates the sense of liberation that came as outside life resumed — the pair connected in the wake of Glastonbury Festival to create the final pieces of the puzzle that make up this

EP. ‘Dreamer’ features additional production from Hypnøs, a close friend whose studio sits across the canal from Maroki’s in Amsterdam, and you can expect to hear more from their partnership in the coming months.

A special mention goes to the artwork for Through The Tooth, which comes from James Lacey at Pointless Illustration. A longtime friend of Maroki’s, Lacey renders the sound of the EP in dusky tones and geometric formations that call back to the bold vision of the Italian futurists — a fitting mood for the balance of retro and modernist touches contained in the music.

Exploring a more universal approach that reaches beyond the pure functionality of music for the club, Maroki taps into the idea we don’t just need beats for late nights in dark rooms. These are songs to carry with you through life, with an emotional resonance which lingers long after the final delay trails have run their course on EP closer ‘Offworld Paddy’.

Mixed Feelings presents a VA remix EP of Jaxe's track titled "Flames" (released in 2023 via Peace Tomorrow VA) from Bejenec, Bakblivv, Avtomat, Tamten and Jaxe's own flip.

Beginning with Bejenec's remake, Flames emerge as reminiscent of the golden days of 4/4 UK bass, boasting a commanding bassline that drives the rhythm alongside drums infused with lots of swing.

Following suit is Babklivv, whose distorted low frequencies disrupt the previous remix structure, presenting a beat driven by broken kicks, perpetually building a seductive tension.

The third track belongs to Avtomat, who further diversifies the mix with an onslaught of heavy percussive hits seamlessly melded with a dubstep-inspired bass, gradually enveloping the listener until exhaustion sets in.

TAMTEN then offers a momentary, deeper interpretation, imbuing the original with a southwestern sonic flavor, evoking an abstract dream that seems to stretch on indefinitely.

Finally, Jaxe's reinterpretation brings the EP to a close, reimagining the original bassline with uptempo breakbeat drums and a captivating sawtooth hook, elevating the energy into higher BPM territory.
