The sun shone down
on a lone survivor
floating rudderless
on a sea of self-loathing

Money and beauty
strength and confidence
seemed insignificant now
as the compass was lost
and land was nowhere in sight.

All he had was wounds 
and the occasional cackle 
of flying seagulls

A personal challenge:
try not to cry or
find any reason to laugh.

All alone
he need not worry
about lines, crowds, plagues, or riff raff.
He wiped his brow 
and bowed his head,
praying for calm seas
and any indication
of where to go.
