Earlier this year we have had a new addition to the music scene – The Rat Race.. The Rat Race are a mod, indie, punk and rock and roll style band. They have popular influences like The Courteeners, The Stone Roses, The Specials and local influences like The Get Alongs, The Control, Vellocet and The Blue Collars. THE CONTROL (being a gentle nod to singer Joe Brennan-Hulme’s appearance in a Joy Division feature) were formed in Stoke on Trent, 2008 on less than a whim. There are no ‘right’ ways to form a band but it could probably be said that thirty minutes from introduction, blagging your way on stage at a battle of the bands is wrong. They had no intention of winning of course, not even the intent to compete. Intent was only to begin, there and then.

Young and supple enough to go without sleep; John Burgess, Mike Davies, Richard David Bratt and Joe Brennan-Hulme began to obsess. Through the smoke filled room and can cluttered floor, something truly great had emerged...THE CONTROL.
