"I've always been fascinated with extreme art." The Fast Forward member discusses the Copenhagen techno sound, eroticism and his proclivity for noise and black metal.

Martin Schacke has been leading the charge on developing the psytrance-inspired techno sound that's dominated clubs over the last couple of years. He's also known for making provocative, catchy club tunes like "Kisloty People"—his breakout single from 2019—and Apocalyptic Decadence, an LP that came out on Instruments of Discipline last year (which made Resident Advisor's "The Best Albums of 2022" list). He's joined by a rank of DJs from Copenhagen like Sugar and DJ Tool who are popularizing this fun and fast counterpoint to heads-down dance music, and which Schacke describes as originating from a desire to start a scene distinct from the Berghain sound.

Interestingly, Schacke is also an artist of many trades. He's heavily involved with noise, industrial and black metal music, and he discusses how these more experimental forms have inspired his releases for the dance floor. "I've taken a lot of these ways of working with aesthetic opposites and absurdities from noise music, where it's normal to use extreme subject matter and go into dark territory and fun territory," he said. "I think those can really intertwine."

Two weeks right after recording the previous mix, I've been trusted to play at .TAG's queer party 'JuLeLu', from 1am to end,  I tried to give the set a story line that resonates with a futuristic allure and an enigmatic charm. there're loads of tunes I don't play much, but I deeply love, I wanted to explore the depths of sound, with a touch of bizarre, a dash of otherworldly sensations, spanning from the dawn of our tribal civilization to the uncharted territories of the future, or psychedelic spaces. It turned out we finished at 7am, in these 6 hours, I had so much fun and felt so beloved in this one and only homeland of mine, to see so many old friends gathering together again and meet more new, so grateful I am.

Breaking through via a series of livestreams in 2020, DJ MELL G has had quite the journey. From launching her label JUICY GANG RECORDS in 2021 to embarking on a worldwide tour in more recent months, the German producer is establishing a sound and space of her own. Today, DJ MELL G produces and mixes electro with occasional splashes of techno and breakbeat. Having co-produced records with DJ GODFATHER, DJ FUCKOFF, and KARNAGE KILLS, her first solo LP ISSUES signifies her most personal project yet, affirming her status as a considered producer who is keen to nurture dialogue around mental health in the music industry.
