TEXT is a new comic chamber opera with music composed by Michael Bascom and libretto written by Clare Best.

When Don and Denise invite Bill, Chloe and Beth to share a meal and a few bottles of wine, the evening looks set to be light-hearted, until a surprising text message causes mayhem in the group of close friends. TEXT takes a wry look at the layers and tangled threads of communication between us, and asks what really binds friends and lovers.

This contemporary classical work was premiered as a live-stream in the Milton Court Studio Theatre at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in July 2021 as part of the MA in Opera Making & Writing, a collaboration between the composition and opera departments at GSMD, in association with the Royal Opera House.

When George splashes a bucket on a turkey vulture (as one of the vulture girls screams and falls into the river), Joshua Napoleon said his last words, "GRAB MEEEEEEE!" and fell into a river after the turkey vulture.
This is followed by George and the Wildlife Auction and Court celebrating Joshua's defeat in the Final Battle!
