The Tantrum Desire brand is most associated with the kind of epic  productions that have seen drum and bass become a mainstay of the mainstream. True heads, though, will know that there’s always been an undercurrent of genre-twisting experimentalism present, which came to the fore on last year’s huge album Diversified. So, which corners are explored on this EP?

Nationwide Rocker opens in a dark and techy landscape. Reverberating stabs underpinned by the insistent buzz of low end strikes suggest we’re building into a display of neurofunk technique. And then we’re dropped into something that isn’t quite categorisable. It’s hard, dancefloor music, built from a stripped-back rhythm sequence and a succession of expertly-twisted basses. This is the collision of raw, visceral energy with that trademark Tantrum Desire slick production science.

Then Airhead takes us somewhere different. With a funky techstep call and response pattern, this is an instant dancefloor bubbler. And there’s an eighties electro sensibility woven into the stabs and synth-effects which makes this feel like it could be a 2016 rework of a forgotten crate-dug classic. It’s minimal and focussed but, as you’d expect from Tantrum Desire, it refuses to let the temperature drop, with precision-crafted builds to keep attention gripped on the bass-and-mid interplay right to the finish.

You won’t be prepared for what Think About You has to offer. A bleeps-and-pads hands-in-the-air hardcore intro drops into some triplet-time rave workout material. We’re treated to mid-range grind resolving into luxuriant sweeping tones over a skippy 6/8 time-signature. But ravers and MCs better not get too comfortable, as a “Switch it up” sample signals a slam into 4/4 time. Then the breakdown cools things off ready to go back in with the madness once again.If you didn’t know about Tantrum Desire’s versatility then you should have been paying closer attention. Don’t worry, though, because this EP is a perfect representation of the serpentine rule-bending contained within the sound. It’s all dancefloor music, but beyond that, anything’s possible

now everybody knows dom is one of the front runners on the bio beats label and has been doing his thing for the past few months with the likes of logan d turno just to name a few now he's back HOME with his solo ep  thats is mashing up the dance floors at the moment with the big hit "horror" then to link up with the boss man again on the powerful "spun" track to the bass thumping W.A.T track this is set to be a monster ep from the TEFLON DOM

Kartoons, a label cemented deep in the history of drum and bass and responsible for anthems such as Trend’s ‘2 Degrees’ and Ray Keith’s ‘Follow The Leader’. Since the millennium everything’s been pretty quiet on the Kartoons front despite plenty of requests to bring the label back. Well now in 2016 your prayers have been answered..

Original label founder Nicky Blackmarket teams up with newly appointed member of the Shadow Demon Coalition; Voltage to bring you the first release.

Back in the 90’s Kartoons was all about that dancefloor vibe - big basslines, crazy samples and tough beats. The first release in 2016 is certainly no exception to the rule with both tunes already causing a commotion on dubplate, if you overlook these tunes then you’re really missing out.

‘Fusion’ kicks off the release schedule with mystical chord progression and a snappy snare breakbeat. Sticking with true 90’s militant vibes it rolls right into a mix of sub low bass lines with a layered high frequency synth which can only be described as the ZX Spectrum loading noise on acid.

‘Midnight’ flips the script and takes a totally different approach to what you may remember from previous Kartoons output whilst grabbing tons of influence from way back when. If you like elastic bass lines and subtle pitch bends that also bring an element of funk then this one is most certainly for you. This one’s a roller!

A massive release from Kartoons and certainly a great way to kick off the 2016 return. Don’t sleep on this as no doubt Nicky is already cooking up another smasher for the next release.

It’s no surprise that DJ Hybrid hits the Serial Killaz camp with a massive EP full of jungle and mid 90’s influences. ‘Too Deep’ is a monstrous bag of 5 hard hitting, breakbeat infused riddims, each with their own throwback to different events in drum and bass’ history. This is certainly one EP not to miss - period.

For those thinking “you can’t do mid 90’s using digital hardware”.. It’s time to change your mindset.

‘Give You More’ wouldn’t be of any surprise if it was dropped at AWOL in 1994. It’s as if Hybrid has literally rewound time, given it a fresh lick of primer and layered up the final coat with an array of mashed up breakbeats lashed with BIG growling sub bass.

Moving swiftly on to ‘Big Respect’, certainly something due to many of the original foundation of the jungle scene and without a doubt played out well on this heavyweight track. Infused reggae influences combined with dub effects that will no doubt remind you of the old effects machine at Telepathy it’s a sure fire hit aimed at the young, the old and everyone in between.

‘Regrets’ provides the thought of moody atmosphere, smoke machines pillowing out tons of dry ice, lazers licking the heads of ravers through a sweat haze and slow motion dance moves. It’s a guaranteed head nodder whether you’re a side to side or up and down kind of mover - either way, you are going to feel this tune one way or another.

Stopping briefly as the EP’s title track ‘In Too Deep’ takes a stance with its cinematic introduction, brief female vocal samples and then.... Silence. Pause for second before the rollercoaster bass and breaks take you on a musical journey.

Memories of Dreamscape 15 V 16 or United Dance will potentially come flooding back to those in regular attendance at either The Sanctuary or Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre with just one play of ‘Moving On’. It’s as if this tune has nailed the atmosphere and production style of these eras all in one go. Think DJ Red meets DJ Seduction.

All in all this is another tough EP from the Serial Killaz camp, 100% quality with not a single filler or weak tune. 
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is another attempt at remaking jungle either, this EP is fresh as the morning sun at 6am when you’re being ejected from a venue whilst 100’s of flyers are being stuffed in your hands.
