There is an immediately noticeable shift in mood from the last time we checked in with S. Carey. He was heavy-hearted on 2022’s Break Me Open — crestfallen and reckoning after a big love lost. And so, Watercress sets us off with the ringing of hard-won hope. It is in fact only in the clear, shallow waters that watercress grows. And these are the very places that Sean Carey the human being returns to again and again — to fish, to reflect, and to grow. Seasons have passed and he’s spent time healing in the water, flowing and still. The pieces have been collected and reassembled. Of course, there’s always going to be a wistful quality to S. Carey’s music. But here, it’s the bright, crisp October morning kind of wistful.

Nashville-based quintet Blonde Bones is “a cannonball of psychedelic indie rock and jangle pop" (big takeover mag) that approaches Mac Demarco, Deerhunter, and Beach Fossils. The group began as the project of singer and guitarist Christian Barnett and bassist Joe Reb while studying music and the performing arts. With the addition of Daniel Ryan (drums) Jacob Carey (guitar, keys) and Dartanyan Melendez (guitar, keys) the group is hitting its stride and developing a well-deserved reputation as a tour-de-force live band with a growing fan base.

On debut LP, ‘Hiding Out’, the group worked with producer Damon Moon (Curtis Harding, Dinner Time, Bathe Alone) at his Atlanta-based studio Standard Electric Recording Co. The album was released in February 2020 just before the pandemic hit — which ultimately allowed the band to continue sessions with Moon, resulting in the forthcoming album “New Animals” - out now via the Kansas City-based indie label The Record Machine.

Lowland Hum (Daniel & Lauren Goans) is making music that is decidedly quiet in the midst of our culture's present noisiness. The duo's self-imposed musical restraint provides space for their rich harmonies and skillful arrangements to fill rooms both large and small, and their sound is unmistakably their own. Following the 2019 release of their fourth full-length studio album Glyphonic, which garnered praise from NPR, No Depression, and more, the pair took their songs on a nationwide headlining tour where they employed the use of handmade lyric books, off-the-cuff songs and conversation with their audiences to create a refreshingly communal musical experience. 

Back in Virginia, Lowland Hum spent the fall & winter converting an old barn on their modest farmhouse property into a proper recording studio. They released their first home studio-born single, a cover of The Beatles’ “I Will”, in January, which found itself at the top of playlists on both Spotify & Apple Music, where the pair are regular fixtures. They will follow-up the release this spring with an EP titled Singing Other People’s Love Songs and a co-headlining tour with The Sea The Sea. The duo will also launch a Patreon page, which will provide a window into their prolific songwriting, Lauren’s visual art (she designs all of the band’s artwork), and daily musings from their life as touring artists and admirers of beauty. Lowland Hum is also launching Golden Hour, an experiential project with friends & collaborators David Wax Museum (look it up, you won’t be disappointed). 

In previous years, Lowland Hum has taken their hush-folk sound across the United States & Europe, sharing stages with the likes of Josh Ritter, Penny & Sparrow, Jesca Hoop and The Oh Hellos along the way - and 2020 will be no different. With new original music set to release this summer, Lowland Hum will hit the road once again. As NPR puts it, “if you love sublimely beautiful two-part harmonies, you’re not going to do better than this band.”

Inspired by an unwavering love for summers spent in the mountains, along with the tall tales from his youth, Jeremiah Tall is a one-man show based out of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Tall's tales range from the struggles of finding your feet on an ever-changing landscape to fictional stories of cowboys and the common man’s battle with the devil. A hand painted suitcase converted into a kick drum provides a backbone to his own throwback spin on folk rock.
