Awoke to news this morning that you left us all behind
Gone without a warning, much too soon, before your time
Let me say my brother now you fly among the doves
I hope you know how much I will miss you, hope you knew how much you were loved

Now life goes on without you, it’s just part of the great design
But please don’t ever doubt you will ever be far out of mind
We’ll work through the sorrow and find a reason to smile again
And look beyond tomorrow when we’ll meet again my friend

And though I can’t touch you anymore, I know you’re walking thru Heaven’s door
I know he’ll lead you by the hand to take your place with the boys in the band
No it will never be the same when somebody mentions your name
I’m feeling lost and my heart feels hollow, so I will follow your footprints in the sand

I reflect on those golden times when Mama would sit down and read a nursery rhyme

Little Bo Peep had lost her sheep, before the story ended I went fast asleep

Like when Old King Cole was a merry old soul with his fiddlers’ three
And the one about the Emperor who had no clothes, what a silly fool was he

And it gave me such a thrill, when Jack & Jill came tumbling back down the hill

Jack was nimble, Jack was quick jumping over his candlesticks

Does Little Jack Horner still sit in the corner having his Christmas pie?

Now it seems I’m lost in time, in between my sanity and losing my mind

They think I don’t know the truth but in my mind I’m happy back in my youth

I’m much older and my days are long, I’ve known for years that Mama’s dead and gone

I can see her by the window there, reading to me softly in her rocking chair

It’s two o’clock in the morning and not a soul is on the street
Just the sounds of some alley cats and the tap of the shoes on my feet
It’s like scene from a Hollywood movie with James Dean in that all-night café

Where did we lose the magic? Where did the feelings go?
