'Frameworks'

"I've been thinking a lot lately about the journey myself and some peers have been on, travelling around the Earth as DJ's and what I feel we have contributed in some small way to the world of beats/bass/dnb etc.. It's been such an amazing ride so far, but speaking for myself, I think somehow some years ago I got a little lost amongst the 'career' aspect, and in a way let the external forces that come with a relative degree of success in a sense dictate some of my relationship with myself as an artist. Over the past year or  so, i've been enjoying getting back to basics, and re-focusing on the real essence of what it is I set out to do in music, having for-filled my 'teenage dreams' of working within the dnb community, I have in a sense been enjoying to returning to being a fan 1st, and with my own creativity, exploring new avenues, which will become more evident in 2019 via my own releases but also the output of Cosmic Bridge (thinking as it's curator). 

This mix is something of a diagram of the landscape of current music that is important to me both as a DJ and artist, but also a heads up to anyone looking for inspiration, I feel there are nuggets of inspiration in here for potential futures that might be autonomous from any given scene. It is also a showcase of what is to come in 2019 from both myself and the label, in a way a set of 'frameworks' for inspiring and forward thinking producers." - Om Unit

Frameworks by Om Unit

The latest installment in the Booms and Claps mix series comes to us from a British duo who we've had our eyes on for a few years now: the collaborative project of Will Marquiss & Mike Holliday AKA Mystic State. It's hard to put these two in a box, with influences ranging from drum and bass and jungle to hip-hop and R&B down to dubstep and garage, but with an impressive list of label affiliations including J:Kenzo's Artikal Music and uptempo titans like Flexout Audio and Halogen Music, their unique and clean production style clearly rings true whatever the genre. We first took notice of Mystic State several years back with their vibey footwork-adjacent beat "808 Gravediggin'" on the aforementioned Halogen Music, and since then, we've seen them release everything from meditative 140bpm stompers to chunky hip-hop beats that you would probably catch on Noisia Radio. Although both members hail from the Bristol area, they're now split internationally, with Will in Calgary, AB (We sure do love our neighbors to the North!) and Mike still in the UK, so expect to see more North American appearances from Mystic State soon! We're very excited to welcome them to the mix series, and without further ado, we're proud to present BnC Mix 045: Mystic State.

Since 2007 The Willisist has been pushing the underground in Vancouver. With well over 300 shows hosted, at just about every venue the city had to offer, showcasing international headliners as well as the best new and veteran locals.  Still known for the now legendary False-o-Ween series, some massive NYE events at W2 and The Hive Climbing gym, and long running local nights with Nautilus and the Back Stage Lounge, he's also been a regular at Basscoast, and played Shambs and Wicked Woods. 

With a genuine love for Drum and Bass he has opened or hosted for the likes of Calibre, D-Bridge, Andy C, Dub FX, Dub Phizix, Blu Mar Ten, LSB, Spectrasoul, Breakage, High Contrast, Pendulum, Von D, Netsky and dozens more.
