I HAD STARTED MAKING MUSIC MY FRESHMAN YEAR AND ONE OF THE FIRST FRIENDS I HAD EVER MADE BECAUSE OF MUSIC WAS HUGO LECLERCQ. I FIRST HEARD FINALE IN THOSE YEARS.

THIS SONG ALWAYS TO ME HAD A DEFIANT YOUTHFUL FEEL, MUCH LIKE SWIMMING THROUGH THE RAIN BECAUSE YOU WERE 16 AND COULD DO ANYTHING.

I THINK A LOT OF THINGS IN MUSIC CAN SOUND EARTHY AND NATURAL IF WE LET THEM BLEND INTO EACH OTHER, AND WE DON’T TRY TO HARD TO SEPARATE THEM AND MAKE THEM TOO CLINICAL. THE MAIN VOCAL HOOK OF THIS TUNE HAS BEEN AUTO-TUNED AND HARD PANNED IN THE INTRO SO IT CAN SOUND A LITTLE SHIMMERY, LIKE RAINDROPS FALLING INTO YOUR HEADPHONES. THE DEEP REESE BASS IS EARTHY AND BOOMY, LIKE A THUNDERSTORM ABOUT TO HEAD OVER THE HILLS INTO YOUR TOWN. ALL INTENTIONAL. THERE IS DELIBERATE BITCRUSHING OF THE VOCALS AS THEY FADE AWAY LIKE A RAINSTORM PETERING OUT AT 7 PM ON A JULY AFTERNOON, JUST AS IT STARTS TO GET DARK.

I’VE TAKEN SOME OTHER “MAGNA” TROPES AND APPLIED THEM HERE AS WELL, RAVE STABS FROM SOME TUNE MADE LONG AGO, PITCHED WILDLY TO BECOME A NEW TOP-LINE, WHICH I THEN ECHO WITH A TRIANGLE BLAST ACID LEAD REMINISCENT OF FAT OF THE LAND ERA PRODIGY. THERE’S ALSO AN UNINTELLIGIBLE RAP VOCAL IN THE BUILDS FROM A VERY LONG FORGOTTEN 90’S RAP B-SIDE FROM THE 740 BOYZ.

THIS SONG IS DEEPLY MEANINGFUL TO ME, IT WAS PART OF MY FORMATIVE YEARS, AND NOW, AFTER I THINK I’VE MORE FOUND MYSELF, I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO SOME SMALL PART OF IT JUSTICE.

THIS PART OF MY LIFE FEELS LIKE THE RAIN IS JUST STARTING TO END, AND IVE GOT MANY MORE MONTHS OF SUMMER LEFT TO DO WHATEVER I LIKE.
