In the past few years Paramida has been busy aligning the planets to her liking: notching up residencies at Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson and Rinse FM. Now she sets her sights on something new: the moon. Her first 12” is here, and in it she channels its energy into 2 unexpected, long-awaited cuts: ‘Dream Ritual’ and ‘French House 2000’, releasing them on her own Love On The Rocks imprint and offering a glimpse of things to come with remixes from Youandewan and the mysterious Alchemical Sisters – AKA Octo Octa & Eris Drew. The eagle has landed, and she is energy.

‘Dream Ritual’ begins firing on all cylinders with heavy percussion and deep rolling basslines that recall early 90s house & jungle, leading to a frenetic, hi hat-heavy drum workout and the drop of a hypnotising lead, carrying us through sections of dreamy pads, swirling trippy clouds that build to breaking point then clear to reveal the raw breaks behind; a stormy sunrise over an extended rave on the shores of a tropical planet, made of ecstasy.

Eris Drew & Octo Octa’s sublime rework stretches the pads and otherworldly samples over a thumping, jump-up take on affairs: stop/start workouts between pressurised build ups, slamming percussion fills and a cheeky acid bassline, all twisting, turning and bubbling away to effervescent effect.

French House 2000 begins in more tribal territory, and with even more urgency. Pounding drums at 130bpm are laced with razor sharp hi hats and punctuated by rushes of dreamy distant melodies, synth stabs and nods to mid-90s French and UK house, techno and trance, a particular blend of genres synonymous with Paramida’s DJ output which she looks set to fuse ingeniously in her production.

Youandewan steps up for the remix, dialling down the intensity for a more reflective, more sci-fi take: a latenight spacewalk through a cluster of eerie sonic debris, moving at brisk pace with a stoned energy past trance-tinged horizons, pausing occasionally to take in the view.

The past is over. A new cycle begins. Dream Ritual will be released on 12” vinyl in a divine ceremony on the night of the full moon, October 20th, 2021.

Arkajo is back - this one is a feisty, bass ready affair which features two unique tracks and two killer remixes from Forest Drive West and Ebende respectively. Ebende's remix is a fast and furious club driven track, a deep house bonanza pitched upwards and destined for the faster floors.

For this striking 7th EP, we are lucky to have Mr. Ho back for another massive delivery. This time complete with fully versatile house music.

A1 “Burrow” storms out the gate with an acid attack. The spooky bassline, punchy drums, and acidic atmosphere makes this the complete peak time bomb. Then the EP smoothly roles into the A2, “TCB”. A loopy, repetitive drum pattern that is guaranteed to feature for many on repeat mode. For B1’s “Shoplift” Mr. Ho brings out the melody. This is a feel-good tune featuring an old school jungle-like drum pattern that makes this a great summer outdoor weapon. Finally, Mr. Ho's Klasse Wreck partner in crime Luca Locazono provides a silkier twist on “Shoplift” for a vinyl only remix.    

This EP provides a whole spectrum of tools for house heads. Groovy, melodic, banging, or loopy, Mr. Ho has got them all covered.

From uptempo deep cuts, to jazzy house, slow trance and acid broken beat… Broken District again proves its will to explore uncharted musical territories. “Brokenbits Vol. 3” is the latest instalment in their series of compilations, featuring productions from the label’s friends and affiliated talents. As always, this new volume explores a wide variety of sounds, with musical works produced by Horatio Luna & Nikodimos, Interface Palm, Slowaxx, and Thermal (Sevenbeatz x Moody Gliani). 

Horatio Luna returns to Broken District after his first appearance on Interface Palm’s album (Curated Space, 2022). This time, he kicks off the release with a collaborative track with fellow Melbourne musician and producer Nikodimos. Together, they deliver us “Fly”, a modern jazzy house ballad that really feels like an improvised jam, with Horatio’s bassline answering to Nikodimos’ saxophone and transverse flute notes. Yet, make no mistake, nothing’s improvised: the two Australian artist gives us an intricated, multi-layered production that will hit jazz-heads right in the heart.  

Interface Palm again lands his beautiful work on Broken District, with “Digital Day”, following his first mini LP “Curated Space” recently released on the label. This time he produces a high-powered, 130bpm broken / deep house track with a beautiful 80s, lo-fi treatment that will set a rough, hazy mood on dancefloors. 

Slowaxx makes his first appearance on Broken District. With “Linn Orchestra”, this Tuscan-based Italian producer takes us on a jazzy, acid, broken beat trip. The track is led by atmospheric pads creating an almost dramatic setting… but they are overlapped with a colourful bass sequence, acid synths and a powerful rhythm (based on the LinnDrum drum machine – hence the title) that brings a peculiar flavour to this odd piece of music. The kind of production that really stick to the Broken District aesthetic. 

Closing the compilation on a strong note is Thermal, the joint-project from Bordeaux-based French producers Sevenbeatz and Moody Gliani. They put together “Vice Street”, a downtempo take on trance music with transcending basslines and a strong 4/4 beat built to challenge the best sound system. It’s a really smart production, with its long breaks, strong builds and overall feeling of never-ending electronic journey.

Take it out into a bowl, then stir in the relief and euphoria. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Use this Route 8 blend to spice up the dance floor. 💃

Stories would be told about him one day, that was for certain. As the sun began to set he looked out over his small village and considered his options, might he run away or stay and fight. The light was fading slowly and it felt symbolic of the way in which his own time was running out.

Never had he imagined he might be forced out like this, yet his truth was all that mattered now and the stories that he’d leave behind would go down to be those of mischief and meander. Perhaps it was always supposed to be this way, a Lahla boy running wild and free with no place to go.

Supreems is set to release a new album on the newly launched Sweet Sun. It features a number of emotive electronic cuts channeling elements of broken beat, breaks, UK bass and beyond. This track features vocals from Off the Meds affiliated vocalist Kamohelo.
