For such a long time I wanted to work with Mister V. His output has been a major influence for me. Especially “Jus’ Dance” was a game changer. So I was very happy that the legend Mr. V himself joined in to collaborate on the 3rd Eye EP for our own imprint RISE MUSIC.

We started working on this piece about two years back, when the world was still quite different. DJT was still in charge (?!) in America and there was no pandemic around. Nevertheless Mr. V’s lyrics kept their magic, their timeless touch and somehow became even more relevant.
3rd Eye is about staying true to yourself, not getting overrun by the madness around you and about trying to make the world a better place.
No matter if it is about resisting autocratic, bigot and racist tendencies in the government or crazy conspiracy theories. We all carry responsibilities for the greater good of all of us. We do share the view that a crisis always also provides opportunities: For change and for the better.

My original version carries this tension that we all felt in the last years. The energy culminates in a nervous arpeggio and a catchy acidish hook on top of a quite classic house beat. After pushing you forward with grooves the tune turns into a string ladden ray of light.
The type of mood that we are all so desperately antcipating.
Everyone who’s not so much into spoken words will be happy to hear my stripped down Raw Beat Version. It is quite a bit more groove focused, powerful and with an overall feel that I like to call African Techno.

On top of that I am very happy to have Amsterdam’s William Djoko in the house for two amazing remixes. He delivered exactly his type of groove-laden house and rugged, motor-city techno (sprinkled with his famed frisky footwork of course) that I was hoping for. He is flirting with playful, cut for the club and trippy, mischievous percussions. Pure power!

"Que reste-t-il de nos amours ?", English titled "I Wish You Love" is french chanson written in 1942 by Léo Chauliac and Charles Trenet.

Much like the title of their critically acclaimed debut LP last year, the 'state of flow' is what drives Ishmael Ensemble's output.

The Bristol-based jazz electronica collective, helmed by producer and saxophonist Pete Cunningham, first made their mark back in 2017 with a debut on local imprint Banoffee Pies, the only release that hasn't come via their own Severn Records which has since housed four subsequent records from the five-piece.

All have pushed the boundaries of what jazz can be; merging these influences with elements of everything from psychedelia and minimalism to Drum & Bass and electronica.

Ahead of the group's new album, 'Visions Of Light', Pete takes care of this week's Monday Is OK mix, sharing a batch of tunes that have soothed him during the pandemic.

[PREMIERE] ABLK - Neuromancer [INNERGATEVA03]

What if the Cistercian (latterly Benedictine) community at the 12th century Fountains Abbey had survived the vandalism of the despot Henry VIII....would they have got down to The Brecker Brothers' great classic 'Some Skunk Funk'? Who knows? Those monastic brothers might have made their own more meditative 'monk funk' to echo round the cloisters! This track is my projection into this fantasy....

Instrumentation: soprano sax; flute; tenor recorder; bamboo flutes; Bb clarinet; Eb clarinet; alto sax.
Additional: drum loops and synth pads.

Apparition

Zut: apart from the French mild expletive (Heck!)...I recently discovered the fictional game 'Zut' as described in an Amor Towles novel 'A Gentleman in Moscow'. This has two characters competing by describing variations of an agreed theme until one runs out of ideas. 
I had a similar feeling when producing this track (as I often do) - I loved the main riff but wanted to make variations in harmony and accompaniment. Eventually I had to give up (zut!).. but happily settled on those presented.

Seagrass Exploration

"Wave" is one of the most famous Bossa nova songs composed of great Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and the title song of his fifths studio album  published in 1967.
I tried to created an other new interpretation of the piece. Hope you enjoy !

As you may recall from your Space Navy History mandatory readings, Partition 26, Balance T, Section 4, there is a lesser known story of one Cadet Ramshackle who disappeared under strange circumstances some 758 years ago, when time was so... well, untraveled... A recording of Cadet Ramshackle's came unexpectedly into the possession of our dessert chef, Luftenant Grangier of Marla Maples, whilst he was cleaning the cabbage farmed from Jipplestock Realm in Warezz Place. We submit this song for your precision analysis. Help us determine the source of poor Ramshackle's malaise.

This started when I was messing around with some softsynth VST's I hadn't used before and landed upon a sound I liked using one called Prodigious Synth.  I laid down a bit of an upward melodic progression with the pianoroll and that became the basis for the song.

Somewhere along the way I threw in some radio clips from the Apollo program and kept tinkering with it the last few weeks until it has become a sort of series of set pieces hinging around the same melodic cues.

For our first DHSA premiere we have @ryanmurgatroyd with a new remix for @stereotype-dj - Visions out this week on @get-physical-music.

Ryan Murgatroyd’s remix captures the essence of his home in Cape Town. Get Physical’s core artist balances African rhythms with electronic stylings- a trait which is thematic in his music. He juxtaposes rasping synths and loose-limbed rhythms as he layers in colourful xylophone melodies. It’s an elegant end to what could only be described as a deserving standalone release of a hot single that now comes with a range of on point remixes.
