Richie Setford is a songwriter, vocalist and session player, going on 30 years in the bizzz. He first performed as a teenager in the wildly derivative and unheralded East Auckland High School band, The Wooden Daisys, which was the fuse that sparked a life long career as an artist. 

In 2002 he formed the Funk/Soul collective One Million Dollars, enjoying a prolific 5 year period before retiring the group to focus on Bannerman, a somewhat "about face", musically speaking. Groove based funk jams became melancholic indie rockers and bittersweet torch songs and he released 3 critically acclaimed albums before departing NZ for Germany. 

Whilst based in Berlin, Richie dropped the Bannerman moniker and began releasing music under his own name, as well as starting a new recording project called Bliss Creek and collaborating with Andres Barlesi to form the band Harmonie Fields. His time in Germany saw him perform on stage with Kat Frankie, M.Rux & The Drums, Max Prosa, John Moods and Itaca (now Ostia). 

In 2015 he co-founded The Hole Boys and alongside friends and bandmates, Ben Anderson, Erez Frank and Magnus Bang-Olsen, helped establish the Neukölln Country Club; a monthly variety show featuring artists from Berlin and around the world. Collaborators included Sean Nicholas Savage, Molly Nilsson, DENA, Albertine Sarges, Discovery Zone and Derya Yildirim, to name a few. Over his 12 years living in Germany, Richie supported a number of artists traveling through Berlin and Europe, including Tiny Ruins, The Magic Numbers, Sallie Ford, Max Prosa, Margaret Glaspy, Marlon Williams, Julia Jacklin and Kat Frankie.

His songwriting is cinematic and affecting, mixing melancholy and pathos with absurd humour and surrealism. His final release as Bannerman was the Here Comes The Day EP which featured the single Alone, Not Alone and was produced by The Magic Numbers singer, Romeo Stodart. In October 2019, Richie released the Aimless Survivor EP, the first under his given name. His last record was Curious Growth, released in November 2022.

Bannerman is the ongoing band project of songwriter Richie Setford who also releases music under his own name.

The Bannerman band is Andrew Gladstone (drums), Campbell Burns (bass) and Paula Sugden (Cello).

Bannerman's last release collected three tracks from an aborted album session, begun in London during the spring of 2015 and subsequently finished in Berlin during the summer of 2016. A trilogy of weariness and longing.

After a 10 year hiatus the Bannerman is back.
